Antwerp nightlife by neighbourhood: which area suits your night, from Grote Markt cafés and Schipperskwartier clubs to Eilandje techno, Het Zuid and Borgerhout.
Antwerp nightlife is spread over six areas, and three of them do most of the work. The old town around the Grote Markt has the cafés, the jazz and the bars that stay open until 04:00. The Schipperskwartier, just north, has the clubs: TRAUM in the church that was Café d'Anvers, and Cargo Club. Eilandje, by the docks, has Club Vaag's basement. Further out, Het Zuid is for cocktails, Antwerpen-Noord for Garage Klub's warehouse and the beer taps behind Centraal, and Borgerhout and Zurenborg for local bars and concerts.
Choose the area by the night you want, then plan the way home: De Lijn lists no night network for Antwerp. This guide covers what each area is like, where to go and who it suits.
The old town is where most nights in Antwerp start, and it can easily be where they end too. Everything is on foot: the Grote Markt, the cathedral, the Melkmarkt and the streets around them. The first round is in a café, not a cocktail bar.
On the square, Den Engel has served since 1903 in one of the oldest buildings in the city. Order a bolleke of De Koninck and take the terrace if the weather allows. On the Melkmarkt, Pelikaan fills its wooden benches from early evening until the crowd spills onto the street, and De Muze, open since 1964, has live jazz almost every night after 22:00. Café Beveren on the Vlasmarkt opens from Thursday to Sunday and keeps a rare Decap dance organ from 1937.
For cocktails, Dogma on Wijngaardstraat mixes classics and house signatures in a retro industrial room, at about €14–15 a drink, until midnight or 01:00. Later, Café au Lait on the Oude Beurs pours until 04:00 every night and turns its weekends into themed parties, and Korsakov on Sint-Jorispoort, a bar-club with €3 draught beer, stays open until 04:00 on Friday and Saturday. The old town's club is Kavka Oudaan, where local promoters run UK garage, bass and hard house nights from €7.50 until 05:00.
Who it suits: first-timers, beer drinkers, jazz fans and anyone who wants a full night without a club ticket. Getting home is simple, because you are already in the centre; the Groenplaats premetro stop is close to the Melkmarkt.
North of the old town, the Schipperskwartier is the old sailors' quarter and the city's red light district, and it holds Antwerp's best-known club building. Café d'Anvers ran here from 1989 to 2019 in a 16th-century church on Verversrui, and in January 2025 the building reopened as TRAUM.
TRAUM has two rooms and three bars. Its own Traum Nacht series runs on Friday and Saturday from 23:00 to 06:00, with house and disco selectors such as Moodymann, Paranoid London and John Talabot in autumn 2026, and outside promoters bring jungle, queer raves and the occasional 24-hour party. Tickets run €12–32.50. A few streets away, Cargo Club on Lange Schipperskapelstraat opens every Saturday from 23:00 to 07:00 for themed parties, drag and the Red & Blue LGBTQ+ nights, under an LED wall and a laser show.
On the Ankerrui, at the edge of the quarter, Het Bos is an arts house with a bar, concerts, theatre, film and parties, open from Wednesday to Sunday. Its bar, with the house Bosbeer, is a good place to start the evening before a club.
Who it suits: house and techno fans, queer nightlife and anyone who wants the club to be the main event. Cargo Club is about 11 minutes' walk from the old town, and TRAUM about 27 minutes on foot or 9 by bike from Antwerpen-Centraal.
Eilandje is the old harbour district, just north of the Schipperskwartier, where the docks now hold museums such as the Red Star Line museum. At night it comes down to two addresses.
Club Vaag, at Rijnkaai 4 near the Red Star Line museum, calls itself an underground basement nightclub. It opens every Friday and Saturday from 23:00, usually until 06:00, with a Funktion-One system and a weekly Club Vaag invites series that leans to the hard end of techno; progressive house promoters such as EDGE book it too. There is no dress code, but disrespect or heavy drinking gets you refused, ticket or not, and presale is the only guarantee on busy nights. The lockers are e-lockers you book with a QR code.
Before the club, Paloma on Van Schoonbekeplein pours natural wine, Belgian beer and mocktails every day from 14:00 to 02:00, in a room with a tiled floor and vintage wooden seats. A glass of red starts at €6.
Who it suits: techno fans, and people who like a glass of wine by the docks before a basement. A Velo bike station stands in front of the Red Star Line museum, and the Schipperskwartier is a short walk south.
Het Zuid is the museum district in the south of the city, and on this list it is the area for a drink rather than a club. Bar Burbure, on a corner of the Vlaamsekaai, is the address for cocktails: green tiles, brass and copper, its own Forest gin and vermouth, and a Negroni made with both. It opens from Tuesday to Saturday, until midnight midweek and 01:00 on Friday and Saturday, and last drinks are served half an hour before closing.
Further south, beyond Het Zuid, Plein Publiek on the Blue Gate site runs rooftop sessions from 17:00 or 19:00 until midnight or 01:00: disco, 80s and house at LA FÊTE, reggae and dancehall at Jammin', with tickets from €11 to €15. It is an early night, and it suits people who do not want to stay up until six.
Who it suits: couples, cocktail drinkers and anyone who wants to be in bed before the clubs close. The Blue Gate site is outside the centre, so plan the ride back before you go.
North and east of Antwerpen-Centraal, this is not an area you wander around at night. You come for one address.
Garage Klub is the big one. It opened in May 2024 in a converted warehouse on the Noorderlaan, holds 1,500 people and is run by Jens Grieten, who founded Kompass Klub in Ghent, and Olivier Ramoudt, who spent 20 years at Fuse in Brussels. Richie Hawtin played the opening, and autumn 2026 runs from techno nights to a 2ManyDJs set on 24 October, at around €20 a ticket and until 06:00 or 07:00. A medical crew and security team are always on site, and the club runs a zero-tolerance drug policy.
For beer, Beerlovers Bar on Rotterdamstraat, behind the station, has 12 rotating taps and more than 300 bottled beers, and stays open until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday. With Kulminator closed since April 2026, it is one of the obvious stops for beer geeks.
Who it suits: techno fans who want a big room, and beer drinkers. Getting home from Garage Klub means a taxi, so book it before you go.
East of the station, Borgerhout, which Time Out calls BoHo, is a creative, multicultural district with bars and concert halls more than clubs. Next door, Zurenborg has its café square, the Dageraadplaats.
Trix, on the Noordersingel, is the main music venue: concerts early, such as Bellaire on 16 October 2026 from 19:30 to midnight, and club nights late, such as Celebration of Life on 10 October, with three rooms from 22:00 to 06:00 for €20. De Roma, a restored venue, hosts concerts and cultural events.
For a drink, Bar Bakeliet on het Laar plays vintage, new wave and Britpop, serves food and spreads its terrace over the square, until 01:00 at the weekend; Bar Leon is a wine bar in the same district. In Zurenborg, Café Gorillaz on the Dageraadplaats has free live music every Wednesday and stays open until 03:00 at the weekend, with heaters and blankets on the terrace in winter.
Who it suits: gig-goers and anyone who wants a local night out away from the old town. Both districts are east of Antwerpen-Centraal, so the station is the easy reference point for getting there and back.
For nightlife, stay in the old town. It puts you on foot from the cafés of the Grote Markt and the Melkmarkt, and the clubs of the Schipperskwartier and Club Vaag on the Rijnkaai are a short walk north. Staying near Antwerpen-Centraal works if you plan a night at Garage Klub or a gig at Trix, and Het Zuid is the quieter choice. Compare hotels and hostels on our page of places to stay in Antwerp.

The old town around the Grote Markt for cafés and jazz, and the Schipperskwartier and Eilandje for clubs. They are a short walk apart, so you can do both in one night.
TRAUM and Cargo Club are in the Schipperskwartier, Club Vaag is on the Rijnkaai in Eilandje, Kavka Oudaan is in the old town, Trix is in Borgerhout and Garage Klub is on the Noorderlaan.
Borgerhout and Zurenborg, east of the station. Try Bar Bakeliet on het Laar, a concert or club night at Trix, or Café Gorillaz on the Dageraadplaats.
De Lijn lists no night network for Antwerp, so check the last tram before you go out; a single ticket costs €3. After that, walk, take a Velo bike or a taxi.
In the old town. The cafés are on your doorstep and the clubs of the Schipperskwartier and Eilandje are a short walk north.
