Tilburg

Tilburg nightlife is a pub scene with one big room. About 13,000 students at Tilburg University, plus Fontys and Avans, keep the Heuvel, the Korte Heuvel and the Piusplein busy from Wednesday to Saturday, and bars such as Bolle and Studio list 04:00 closing. The big room is the 013 pop venue near the Pieter Vreedeplein: 3,000 in the main hall, club nights that end at 04:00 or 06:00. Little Devil, Hall of Fame and Paradox cover rock, punk and jazz. Pubs are free to enter; gigs and club nights cost roughly €10–25. Worth knowing: the night train runs only on Friday and Saturday, and 013 takes card payments only.

What to expect

It is a pub city with one big room. Most of the night happens in pubs on the Heuvel, the Korte Heuvel and the Piusplein, where entry is free and several bars list 04:00 closing from Thursday to Saturday. Dedicated clubs are few: Studio on the Heuvel, and the club nights at 013 and Hall of Fame.

Live music is the real strength. 013 books pop, dance and rock in a main hall for 3,000 and a Next stage for 700. Little Devil runs metal, rock and punk several nights a week, Hall of Fame mixes punk gigs with a skatepark, and Paradox covers jazz. Many gigs cost €10–20.

The week has a student rhythm. Tuesday is Dobbeldinsdag at Bolle, Thursday is when students start the weekend at Brandpunt and Studio runs its silent disco, and the weekend belongs to everyone else. The Friday and Saturday night train is the only rail option home.

Who this city is for

Students and first-years

TOP Week fills the Korte Heuvel and the Piusplein each August. Dobbeldinsdag and the Thursday nights are built for them.

Live-music fans

013, Little Devil, Hall of Fame and Paradox are all in the centre and the Spoorzone. Shows range from free to about €25.

Beer drinkers

Kandinsky lists about 200 beers, Taphuys has 40 taps you pour yourself, and Café Bakker leans on local Dutch beer.

Metal and punk crowds

Roadburn takes over 013 every April, and Little Devil and Hall of Fame book the scene all year.

Carnival people

Tilburg turns into Kruikenstad from Friday to Tuesday, and the Piusplein and the Korte Heuvel are the busiest spots.

Budget travellers

Pub entry is free, gig tickets start at €10, and everything in this guide is in the centre or the Spoorzone.

Not for you if you want a big-name techno club. The largest dance room is 013 on event nights, and most pubs close by 04:00.

How the night runs

17:00

Borrel. A terrace on the Piusplein, or a beer at Kandinsky, which opens at 15:00 on weekdays.

20:00

Taphuys happy hour: 25% off the tap wall until 21:00.

22:00

Studio opens at 22:00 on Wednesday (19:00 Thursday to Saturday), and the pubs on the Heuvel fill up.

03:00

Last entry to club nights at 013.

Top nights out

Catch a gig at Little Devil

Metal, rock and punk in a rock café, with many nights free and others at €10–20. A free pop quiz runs on selected Thursdays.

Roll the die at Bolle

Dobbeldinsdag runs every Tuesday from 23:00 to 00:30 with free entry: order a drink, roll a die, and an even number makes the drinks free.

Take a club night at 013

The autumn 2026 programme includes Subquake’s 13-year anniversary drum & bass night on 28 November and De Unie on 19 December.

Pour your own at Taphuys

Forty beers on a tap wall on the Piusplein, paid with a tap card, with a 25% happy hour from 20:00 to 21:00.

Go to Roadburn

The heavy-music festival runs 15–18 April 2027 at 013, with an opening night on 14 April.

Be in Kruikenstad for carnival

Carnival runs from Friday to Tuesday, 5–9 February in 2027. The Kermis in July is the other big date: the 2026 edition ran 17–26 July.

The neighbourhoods

Heuvel & Korte Heuvel — the pub core

The square and the street off it hold Studio, Le Clochard, Cul de Sac, Café Bakker and Café Weemoed. Free entry, loud music and 04:00 closing at the busiest.

Piusplein — student terraces

Bolle, Brandpunt and Taphuys face each other across the square. Packed in term time and on carnival weekend.

Spoorzone & Pieter Vreedeplein — big rooms

013 on Veemarktstraat, Hall of Fame in the Cultuurfabriek and RAW on Burgemeester Brokxlaan. Gigs and club nights rather than pub crawls.

Station & Telegraafstraat — beer and live music

Kandinsky and Paradox sit on Telegraafstraat, and Little Devil is on Stationstraat. A quieter, more local evening.

Oude Markt & Centrum — early drinks

Anvers on the Oude Markt is a beer café that closes around midnight. Good for a first drink, not for the late part of the night.

At the door

Getting in

Pubs are walk-in. The legal drinking age is 18, and staff must ask for ID when they doubt your age, so carry it. Some centre venues may refuse trainers or scruffy jeans. At 013, night programming after 00:00 is 18+ unless the event page says otherwise, and club nights admit you until 03:00.

What it costs to get in

Pubs are free. Gigs and club nights listed for autumn 2026 cost €10–25, for example €13.75 for Tilburg Dub Club #9 at Hall of Fame and €17.50 in advance for Praying Mantis at Little Devil. 013 prices are set per event.

Getting home

Night trains run on Friday and Saturday nights only, hourly between Rotterdam, Breda, Tilburg and Eindhoven, plus Tilburg to 's-Hertogenbosch. Arriva has run city night buses from the centre but dropped them for carnival in 2024, so check 9292 first. Most people cycle; a taxi across town costs about €15–20.

What visitors get wrong

Say Heuvel, not Heuvelstraat

The going-out square is the Heuvel, with the Korte Heuvel beside it. The Heuvelstraat is a shopping street, and it will send your map to the wrong place.

Pay by card at 013

The venue has been cashless since August 2020 and has not taken coins since February 2023.

Bring earplugs

013 recommends them for loud nights and sells them inside.

Check the last train before you commit

The night train runs only on Friday and Saturday. On other nights, plan a bike or a taxi.

Park at Tivoli for 013

The car park next to 013 sells a pre-paid evening rate of €7 after 18:00 on concert days.

Expect gates at carnival

The 2027 rules bring back entry gates, refuse visibly drunk people and bar under-18s from alcohol. The city is using 11 November 2026 as a test run.

Why this city is like this

Kruikenstad means jug city

Tilburg is called Kruikenstad at carnival. Local textile workers were nicknamed “kruikenzeikers” because urine was used to dye wool.

The biggest fair in the Benelux

The Tilburg Kermis takes over the city centre for ten days every July. The 2026 edition ran 17–26 July.

013 was fined for a protest party

In February 2022 the venue opened for the “Night Stands Up” protest past the 22:00 closing time and was fined €10,000.

013 grew from a merger

The venue came out of Noorderligt, MuziekKantenWinkel and the Batcave, and now welcomes more than 380,000 visitors a year.
