Valencia

Valencia nightlife runs late and costs less than Madrid or Barcelona. Bars fill after 23:00, pubs close at 03:30 and the clubs keep going until 07:00 or 07:30. The old town, El Carmen, is for bar-hopping. Ruzafa mixes cocktail bars with small techno rooms. The big commercial clubs sit at the City of Arts and Sciences and on Malvarrosa beach, and Spook, out in Pinedo, carries the name of the Ruta del Bakalao clubs of the eighties. Most club doors cost €10–20, often with a drink included. Worth knowing: on Friday and Saturday the metro runs until about 03:00 and night buses until 03:15, so the ride home from a club is usually a taxi.

What to expect

The night is long, and it starts late. Dinner is at 21:30 or later, the bars fill from 23:00 and the clubs after 01:00. Pubs close at 03:30, which is when the club queues build, and most clubs run until 07:00 or 07:30.

The city splits into a bar half and a club half. El Carmen and Ruzafa are for walking between bars. The big clubs are on the edges: MYA and L'Umbracle at the City of Arts and Sciences, Akuarela on Malvarrosa beach and Spook out in Pinedo. Plan a taxi for the second half of the night.

Summer changes the map. L'Umbracle opens its garden in late April, Akuarela opens every night in summer and Spook's events start in its open-air garden in the afternoon. In March, Fallas takes over the whole city for five days.

Who this city is for

Big commercial nights

MYA, Akuarela and Indiana run until 07:00 or later with house, pop and reggaeton, and the doors are used to groups.

Techno and house fans

Oven Club in Ruzafa, 33/45 in Algirós and Spook in Pinedo, where Ricardo Villalobos played for 14 hours in June 2026.

Bar crawlers

El Carmen and Ruzafa are dense enough to walk between bars all night without a map.

Live music fans

Loco Club puts on more than 200 concerts a year, Sala Moon takes touring bands and Café del Duende has flamenco four nights a week.

Students and Erasmus

Thursday is a real night out here: Campus Indiana, Thursday sessions at MYA and Akuarela, and plenty of guest lists.

Summer visitors

Open-air nights at L'Umbracle and Akuarela, and the beach at sunrise.

Not for you if you want to walk between big clubs. The large rooms are spread across the city, and after 03:15 the way home is a taxi.

How the night runs

21:30

Dinner, or tapas and a first drink in Ruzafa.

23:00

The bars of El Carmen and Ruzafa fill up. Agua de Valencia at Café Madrid or Café de las Horas.

01:00

Club doors are open, but the floors are still half empty.

03:30

Pubs close and the clubs fill. On Friday and Saturday the last metro has already gone at about 03:00.

05:00

Peak in the big clubs.

07:00

Closing. Sunrise on the terrace at Akuarela, then a taxi home.

Top nights out

Dance until sunrise on Malvarrosa beach

Akuarela Playa has an open-air terrace on Malvarrosa beach and runs until 07:30. Entry is usually €20–25 with a drink.

Do a day-to-dawn session at Spook

Big events start in The Garden in the afternoon and finish in the Main Room at dawn. Book the taxi home before you go: no metro reaches Pinedo.

Drink Agua de Valencia where it was born

Café Madrid, open since 1940 near Plaza de la Reina, is known as the birthplace of the city's cava and orange cocktail.

See flamenco before the bars

Café del Duende has shows from Thursday to Sunday for €20 with a drink, and Radio City runs flamenco on Tuesday at 23:00.

Spend a summer Saturday at L'Umbracle

The 4,000 m² garden at the City of Arts and Sciences opens in late April, and Saturday sessions start at 17:00.

Fallas, if you are here in March

From 15 to 19 March the city is in the street. The mascletà fires at 14:00 in Plaça de l'Ajuntament, fireworks light the old riverbed at night, and the falles burn on the night of the 19th.

The neighbourhoods

El Carmen & Ciutat Vella — old-town bars

The medieval centre and the first stop of most nights. Café de las Horas and Café Madrid for Agua de Valencia, Atenea Sky for a rooftop, Jimmy Glass for jazz and Radio City until 04:00.

Ruzafa — cocktails and small clubs

Valencia's Soho, south of Estació del Nord. Dinner and cocktails first, then Oven Club for techno, Killing Time for leftfield nights or Play Club for hits.

Extramurs — central clubs and live music

Just outside the old walls. Indiana for a big central club, Loco Club and Sala Moon for gigs, Café del Duende for flamenco.

Blasco Ibáñez & Benimaclet — the student side

The university avenue and the old village north of it. Big Ben on Plaza de Honduras to start, La3 for concerts and club sessions, 33/45 for small techno nights.

City of Arts and Sciences — the big clubs

MYA from Thursday to Saturday, and L'Umbracle's open-air garden in summer. Smart dress and a taxi home.

Marina & Malvarrosa — beach nights

Marina Beach Club for a pool and DJs until 03:30, then Akuarela on Malvarrosa beach until 07:30, every night in summer.

Pinedo — Spook and the old Ruta

South of the port, on the road that carried the Ruta del Bakalao. Spook runs three stages, from an afternoon garden to dawn.

At the door

Getting in

Clubs are 18+ and check photo ID, and some nights have been 21+, so read the ticket. The commercial clubs set a dress code: MYA asks for smart dress with no sportswear, shorts or flip-flops, and Indiana turns away sportswear. Buying online is usually cheaper than the door, and guest lists are common.

What it costs to get in

Most club nights cost €10–20, often with a drink included. Examples: from €10 at Play Club, €12–20 at Indiana, about €21 at MYA and €20–25 at Akuarela. Early tickets for Ricardo Villalobos at Spook started at €11.40, and some nights at 33/45 are free. Bars are free to enter.

Getting home

On Friday, Saturday and the eve of public holidays Metrovalencia runs until about 03:00. EMT night buses leave from Plaza del Ayuntamiento until about 02:15 from Monday to Thursday and until 03:15 at the weekend, and a single bus ticket costs €2. Clubs close around 07:00, long after that, so most people take a taxi or walk if they are staying in the centre.

What a night costs

Club entry€10–20
Beer in a club€5–6
Cocktail€8–12
Cloakroom€2–3
Night bus ticket€2
Taxi across town€10–15
Late-night bocadillo€5–8
Hostel bed, weekend€25–45

Cheap night — €35

Two drinks in El Carmen, a guest-list or €10 club entry, three beers inside and the night bus home.

Normal night — €65

A cocktail in Ruzafa, a €20 club ticket with a drink, three more drinks, the cloakroom and a shared taxi.

Big night — €130 and up

Sunset at Atenea Sky, dinner, MYA or Akuarela until 07:00, drinks all night and a taxi home.

What visitors get wrong

Beat the 03:30 rush

When the pubs close, everyone heads for the clubs at once. Arrive by 02:30 and you skip the worst of the queue.

Buy online, pay less

MYA and Spook sell cheaper early tickets online, and many club tickets include a drink.

Thursday counts

Indiana, MYA and Akuarela all open on Thursday, and it is the main student night.

Check the season

L'Umbracle only opens from late April, and Akuarela is nightly only in summer.

Plan Pinedo before you go

No metro or tram reaches Spook. Book the taxi back, or agree a lift, before you are inside.

Mind the dress code

The commercial clubs turn away sportswear. Shorts and flip-flops will not get you into MYA, even in August.

Why this city is like this

The Ruta del Bakalao

Between about 1982 and 1996, a 30-kilometre circuit of clubs along the CV-500 ran from Friday to Monday. It was the first large-scale clubbing scene in Spain.

Spook started in a toy factory

Spook Factory opened in 1984 in a former toy factory, and the Spook name still runs club nights in Pinedo.

The city has its own cocktail

Agua de Valencia, made with cava and orange juice, is said to have been born at Café Madrid, a bar that has been open since 1940.

Fallas is UNESCO heritage

The March festival was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2016.
