Marseille nightlife lives in the hills behind the port as much as on it. The Vieux-Port has the Trolleybus, three clubs in a 17th-century arsenal, and the cocktail bars of the Palais-de-Justice district. Cours Julien, Notre-Dame-du-Mont and La Plaine hold the small clubs and gig rooms, and Belle de Mai, behind Saint-Charles station, has the techno at the Cabaret Aléatoire and Unité.22. Rooms are small, often 250 to 300 people, most tickets cost €5–25 on Shotgun, and clubs close between 04:00 and 06:00. Worth knowing: from Monday to Thursday the metro stops at 21:30; trams run until 01:00, and the Noctambus night buses leave the Vieux-Port hourly from 01:30 to 04:30 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The transport timetable shapes the night. From Monday to Thursday the metro stops at 21:30 and relay buses run until 00:30. From Friday to Sunday it runs until 00:30, and the trams run until 01:00 every night. After that you have two Noctambus lines, one bus an hour from the Vieux-Port, or a taxi.
The clubs are small and the tickets are cheap. Baby Club holds 300 people, Le Makeda 270 and Danceteria 250. Most nights sell on Shotgun for €5–16, the Trolleybus is free midweek, and the bigger bookings sell out because the rooms are small.
The scene sits on the hills, not only on the harbour. The Vieux-Port has the Trolleybus, Danceteria and the cocktail bars, but the techno is in Belle de Mai behind Saint-Charles station, and the gigs and small clubs are around Cours Julien, Notre-Dame-du-Mont and La Plaine.
The Cabaret Aléatoire, Unité.22, Baby Club and Danceteria book techno, house and bass most weekends, in rooms built for the sound.
Hard trance, hard techno and uptempo nights run at the Cabaret Aléatoire, with collectives such as Omerta.
Le Makeda, Le Molotov and L'Embobineuse put on rap, rock, reggae and experimental bands most weeks.
Six Marseille bars made the French Bar Awards 2025 top 100, led by Carry Nation in eighth place.
The R2 rooftop, Le Dantès and La Caravelle all look over the harbour.

Most club nights sell on Shotgun, and some rooms do not sell at the door at all: Unité.22 has no box office, and the bigger nights at the Cabaret Aléatoire and Baby Club sell out. The techno rooms care more about your ticket than your outfit. R2 is the exception: smart dress, 18+ and a physical ID card, because a photo on your phone is refused. Unité.22 does not allow photos or video inside.
