Enschede nightlife is small, student-led and built around one square. The Oude Markt holds the party cafés and pubs, and several of them stay open until 04:00, with Aspen Valley and Café Friends running to 05:00 on Saturday. The only dedicated club in the centre is ANTIA on Noorderhagen, with techno, industrial and bass nights from Thursday to Saturday. Metropool, formerly the poppodium Atak, covers gigs and club nights, and the student-run Vestingbar throws themed parties on the University of Twente campus. Club nights start at €9. Worth knowing: NS night trains do not serve Enschede, so plan to cycle, share a taxi or stay close to the centre.

Enschede is a small student city, and the night is built around one square. The University of Twente calls the Oude Markt the square where Enschede goes out. The cafés on it open in the afternoon and, at the weekend, most close between 02:00 and 05:00. Visit Enschede says Thursday is student night.
There is one dedicated club and a handful of other rooms. ANTIA on Noorderhagen runs club nights from Thursday to Saturday. Metropool Enschede, formerly Atak, books gigs and club nights in two halls of 800 and 300 people, and a second Metropool stage sits in Hengelo. On campus, the Vestingbar holds themed parties and a Tuesday pub quiz.
Getting home is up to you. The NS night-train page does not list Enschede, and a regional night bus could not be confirmed. Visit Enschede calls cycling the easiest way around the city, and guarded bike storage is available in the centre. A taxi is the fallback.
Thursday is the traditional student night. Café Friends and San Remo are named in Visit Enschede's 2026 student guide for student prices, and the Vestingbar is run by students.
ANTIA books techno, industrial and bass, with a free open-decks night on Thursday and a 32-hour Weekender on 27 November.
Metropool has 32 events on the 2026 Songkick listing, and Café Rocks runs live bands in a rock bar open until 04:00.
De Beiaard pours 24 specialty beers on tap and lists over 200 whiskies. Proeflokaal België lists more than 100 beers.

Not for you if you want a big-city club scene. Enschede has one dedicated club, and most pubs in the centre close between 00:00 and 03:00.

Industrial Night, Housebaar and Bass music without boundaries all run on its Thursday to Saturday calendar. The ticket is €9 before 00:00 and €16 at the door.

A rock bar open from 15:00 to 04:00 every day since 1994. The October 2026 programme runs from Midnight Motel to The Black Fall.

A free roots and indie festival across the centre. The 2026 edition ran on Saturday 5 September, and Grolsch co-sponsors it.

Metropool Enschede stands on Willem Wilminkplein, on the walk from the station into the centre.
Vestingbar is on campus at De Hems 10. Take the train to Enschede Kennispark and walk about ten minutes, or cycle the F35 route.
Metropool Hengelo, Industrieplein 10, is the next town along. Check 9292 for the way back before you buy a ticket.
The minimum age for alcohol is 18, and venues check ID when in doubt. Aspen Valley is 18+ and the July 2026 ANTIA night was 18+. Vestingbar is run by students but open to other visitors. The pubs on the Oude Markt list no door policy, and the venue pages we read publish no dress code.
ANTIA is the one room with published prices: €9 before 00:00, €14 in presale and €16 at the door for a club night, and open decks are free. Metropool prices vary by show. The cafés list no entry fee.
Smoking is banned indoors in cafés and bars. NS night trains serve Randstad routes and a few weekend late trains as far east as Deventer and Zwolle, but not Enschede. Most people cycle. A taxi costs at most €4.31 to start, €3.17 per kilometre and €0.52 per minute, about €18 for three kilometres. Buses 8 and 9 link Hengelo and Enschede and fewer buses run at weekends, so check 9292 for the last departure.

Grolsch was founded in Groenlo in 1615. The de Groen family, who ran a brewery in Enschede, bought it in 1895, and the brewery that makes it today opened in 2004 in Boekelo, near Enschede.
Enschede marked its 700th anniversary in 2025. Grolsch brewed a 5.8% Feestweizen for it, tasted at the Red Roots Festival on 30 and 31 May 2025.
The poppodium Atak went bankrupt in early 2018. The Enschede and Hengelo councils merged their pop venues into one podium, and the article reporting it noted that no other Dutch city had such a joint venue.
Stanislaus Brewskovitch brewed in the former Menist church on Stadsgravenstraat until the city brewery was declared bankrupt in December 2025. A restart is being explored.
