Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires nightlife runs on a clock that surprises first-time visitors. Dinner starts after 21:00, bars fill from 22:00 and the boliches, as the clubs are called, only open around 02:00. Most close between 06:00 and 07:00, and a few go on longer. The night splits in two: cocktail bars in Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood first, then a club under the railway arches by the Palermo parks, on Niceto Vega or on the Costanera Norte beside the Río de la Plata. Entry is usually ARS 20,000–50,000 (€12–29), and clubs are 18 and over. Worth knowing: the Subte stops around 22:00 to 23:00, so you will need a taxi, an app ride or a night bus to get home.

What to expect

The night starts after midnight and the clubs after two. Dinner is at 21:00 or later, bars fill from 22:00 and the boliches open around 02:00. A dance floor that is half empty at midnight is full by 03:00, and most clubs close between 06:00 and 07:00 at the weekend.

It is two nights in one. The first is a bar night, mostly in Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood, where Tres Monos and Victor Audio Bar both made the World's 50 Best Bars 2026 list. The second is a club night: techno at Crobar under the railway arches, live bands and club nights at Niceto, or a big room on the Costanera Norte by the river.

Getting home is the part to plan. The Subte stops around 22:00 to 23:00, so every trip to a club is a taxi, an app ride or a night bus. The door is usually easy for visitors on a guest list before about 01:30, but a few rooms, such as Tequila and Under Club, are 21 and over.

Who this city is for

Night owls

Boliches open around 02:00 and close between 06:00 and 07:00. Some weekend nights run to 08:00.

Techno and house fans

Crobar, Under Club and Dune Park are the dedicated rooms, and Avant Garten lists free entry.

Cocktail drinkers

Tres Monos and Victor Audio Bar are in the World's 50 Best Bars 2026. Florería Atlántico and Presidente Bar are in Recoleta and Retiro.

Big-room dancers

Jet, Tequila and Caix run on the Costanera Norte, and Mandarine Park holds the large open-air nights.

LGBTQ+ travellers

Amerika in Almagro runs Friday to Sunday over three floors, and Club 69 is a Saturday night at Niceto.

Live-music fans

Niceto Club books bands from 19:00 and turns into a club at midnight.

Not for you if you want to be in bed by midnight or get home by Subte. The clubs open at two and the trains stop around 23:00.

How the night runs

21:30

Dinner. Restaurants fill after 21:00 and stay busy for hours.

22:00

The previa: drinks with friends, often fernet and cola, or a first cocktail in Palermo Soho.

00:00

Bars at their busiest. Hotel rooftops start to close: the Alvear Roof Bar at 23:30, Crystal Bar at 01:30.

01:30

Guest lists lapse. Jet and Caix are already open by then, from about 00:30.

03:00

Peak. The floors are full and the best sets start.

06:00

Closing time for most clubs. Medialunas and café con leche at an early café, or another hour at a club that runs to 07:00.

Top nights out

Start at Tres Monos in Palermo Soho

The corner bar at Guatemala 4899 is No. 21 in the World's 50 Best Bars 2026. Go early: past midnight it is standing room at the bar.

Catch a headliner at Crobar

Three spaces under the railway arches beside the Palermo lakes, with international techno on Fridays and Saturdays.

See a band at Niceto, then stay for the club

Concerts usually run 19:00 to 21:00, and the club night starts around midnight in the same building.

Dance by the river on the Costanera Norte

Jet, Tequila, Caix and Mandarine Park sit along Avenida Rafael Obligado, facing the Río de la Plata.

Find the hidden door

Florería Atlántico is entered through a flower shop's cold-room door, and Frank's through a phone booth with an access code.

Watch a milonga in San Telmo

Tango social dances run in San Telmo, Palermo and Villa Crespo, and the city-run Tango BA festival in late August is free.

The neighbourhoods

Palermo Soho — cocktail bars and the busiest streets

Tres Monos, CoChinChina, Victoria Brown and Victor Audio Bar are all within walking distance of each other. The best place to start the night.

Palermo Hollywood — Niceto Vega and the late bars

Niceto Club, Under Club and Kika Club are on or near Niceto Vega and Honduras. Frank's and Uptown are on Arévalo.

Palermo Parks — clubs under the railway arches

Crobar and Avant Garten sit in the arches by the Palermo lakes. Far from the bars, so you arrive by taxi or app.

Costanera Norte — boliches on the river

Jet, Tequila, Caix and Mandarine Park line Avenida Rafael Obligado. Big rooms, strict doors and no Subte nearby.

Recoleta and Retiro — hotel roofs and cellar bars

Florería Atlántico, Presidente Bar and the Alvear Roof Bar. Smarter and quieter, and the hotel rooftops close early.

San Telmo and Monserrat — tango and one big club

Bar Sur has live tango nightly, and Palacio Alsina is a two-floor electronic club on Adolfo Alsina.

Puerto Madero — rooftop views, little else

Crystal Bar on the 32nd floor of the Alvear Icon Hotel is the reason to come. There are far fewer bars here than in Palermo.

Villa Crespo and Chacarita — the inner-west belt

878, Dune Park and Deseo, plus Amerika in neighbouring Almagro. Converted spaces and former factories, away from the tourist streets.

At the door

Getting in

The legal drinking age is 18, and most clubs are 18 and over. Under Club, Tequila and Avant Garten are 21 and over. Bring your passport or national ID: Jet says it does not accept photocopies or digital IDs. Dress smart casual. The Costanera clubs are stricter, and Jet turns away shorts and flip-flops. Guest lists on Instagram usually get you in free before about 01:30.

What it costs to get in

Plan on ARS 20,000–50,000 (€12–29). Recent examples: ARS 30,000 for a September 2026 club night at Dune Park, ARS 15,000–30,000 at Jet, and free at Avant Garten. Tables cost far more: Jet lists VIP tables from ARS 350,000 (about €200).

Getting home

The Subte stops around 22:00 to 23:00. Colectivo buses run 24 hours on many routes, so load a SUBE card before you go out. Uber, Cabify and DiDi work, but a May 2026 court ruling says they must follow taxi rules. A radio taxi with a visible logo is the safe fallback. From the Costanera, take a car: there is no Subte on the waterfront.

Cheap night — €25

Four beers in a Palermo bar, pizza and a bus or a short ride. No club entry.

Normal night — €60

A cocktail bar, a club door, two more drinks, food and rides in both directions.

Big night — €120 and up

Dinner, cocktails, a large Costanera club and taxis. Prices rise most months, and €1 is about ARS 1,720 in October 2026.

What visitors get wrong

Join the guest list before 01:30

Promoters post lists on Instagram, and free entry usually applies until about 01:30. After that you pay the full door.

Load your SUBE card before you go out

Colectivo buses run all night on many routes, and the SUBE card is how you pay. The Subte is closed by 23:00.

Carry your original ID

Jet states it will not take photocopies or digital IDs. Leave the rest of your documents at the hotel.

Reserve the hotel rooftops

The Alvear Roof Bar and Crystal Bar both require reservations. 878 takes bookings by phone and WhatsApp.

Carry pesos and small notes

Cards work in most bars, but the largest note is ARS 20,000 (about €12). The official and informal rates are within about 1 per cent of each other, so a street changer saves you nothing.

Keep your phone inside on the street

Thieves on motorbikes snatch phones and bags in Palermo. Order your ride from inside the bar or club.

Why this city is like this

Palermo Hollywood is named for television

The name dates from the mid-1990s, when TV and radio producers set up offices in the area between Córdoba, Santa Fe, Dorrego and Juan B. Justo.

The Subte closes early on purpose

Line A opened on 1 December 1913, the first underground in Latin America. In 1994 the closing time moved from 01:00 to 23:00 as a temporary measure and was never restored.

Crobar opened in 2006 under a railway line

It sits in the arches by the Palermo lakes, and trains can be felt overhead. DJ Mag ranked it No. 45 in its Top 100 Clubs 2024.

Two of the best bars have hidden doors

Florería Atlántico is entered through a cold-room door in a flower shop. Frank's has been behind a phone booth since 2011.
