Bangkok

Bangkok nightlife is spread across a very large city, so pick an area and stay in it. Silom has the techno rooms on Decho Road and the LGBTQ+ clubs on Soi 2. Sukhumvit has Soi 11 and the cabaret at Sing Sing Theater, Thonglor has the cocktail bars, and RCA is the strip of big mainstream clubs. Chinatown has small bars on Soi Nana, and the rooftops stand along Silom and Sathorn. Most venues close at 02:00, and those with a late licence in designated zones run to 04:00. Entry is usually ฿300–500 (about €8–13), often with a drink. Worth knowing: the BTS and MRT stop around midnight, so plan on Grab or a metered taxi home.

What to expect

The licence sets the clock, not the music. Most entertainment venues must close at 02:00. Since 15 December 2023, licensed venues in designated zones, including RCA, Silom and Ratchadaphisek, can stay open until 04:00. The zones are not the same as the neighbourhoods, and a late licence belongs to a venue, so check the door before you plan the end of the night.

Pick one district per night. Traffic is slow after dark, and the trains stop around midnight. A night in Silom, on Soi Nana in Chinatown or along Sukhumvit works. A night that crosses three districts means two long Grab rides.

The red-light strips are separate from the clubs. Patpong, Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are go-go bar areas. Sex work is illegal in Thailand but openly tolerated there. You can walk through, or skip them entirely. Touts, inflated drinks bills and "free show" offers are the real risk, not the music.

Who this city is for

Techno and house

Mustache and Subwerk 3.0 on Decho Road, Elsewhere and DUAL at Trinity Complex, and Bar Temp. near Chinatown. Most run Friday and Saturday.

Cocktail drinkers

Eight Bangkok bars made the top 50 of Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026, led by Dry Wave Cocktail Studio at number 4 and Bar Us at number 6.

Rooftop people

Sky Bar at lebua, Vertigo and Moon Bar, ÆTHER and Octave all sit above 40 floors. Most open at 17:00 for sunset.

LGBTQ+ travellers

DJ Station on Silom Soi 2 and the bars on Silom Soi 4 form the long-standing gay quarter, next to Patpong.

Late finishers

Onyx and Route 66 on RCA run to 04:00, and Elsewhere keeps going until 04:00 on Friday and Saturday.

Budget nights

Big beers on Khao San Road cost about ฿80–120, and a club cover with a drink can be as low as ฿200.

Not for you if you want a train home after midnight or a licensed club open past 04:00. After-hours spots exist, but they come and go.

How the night runs

17:00

Rooftops open. Sunset falls around 18:00 to 18:30, so ÆTHER, Octave and Vertigo and Moon Bar fill early.

19:00

The Soi Nana bars in Chinatown open. G.O.D opens at 19:00 and is small, so it fills quickly.

21:00

Club doors open at Sing Sing Theater, Onyx and Route 66. Floors stay thin until after 23:00.

00:00

The last BTS and MRT trains leave, and shops stop selling alcohol. From here it is Grab or taxi.

02:00

Standard closing for licensed venues. Bars without an entertainment licence stop serving at midnight.

04:00

Late-licence clubs close. The first trains run again at about 06:00.

Top nights out

Watch the sunset from a rooftop

ÆTHER on the 44th floor of Dusit Central Park has free entry and opens at 17:00. Vertigo and Moon Bar on the 61st floor asks for long trousers and closes when it rains.

Hear live jazz at the Bamboo Bar

The Mandarin Oriental's bar has a live band most nights and does not take reservations. Dress smartly: closed shoes and long trousers for men.

Crawl Soi Nana in Chinatown

G.O.D, Teens of Thailand and Tep Bar sit within a few minutes of each other. Most close between midnight and 01:30.

Go to techno on Decho Road

Mustache and Subwerk 3.0 are on the same street in Silom, and both run Friday and Saturday. Mustache has a VOID Acoustics system and holds about 700 people.

See the cabaret at Sing Sing Theater

A 1930s Shanghai-style room on Sukhumvit Soi 45, open Tuesday to Saturday. Smart casual only, and the door asks for ID.

Finish on RCA

Royal City Avenue is the strip of large clubs, including Route 66 and Onyx. Both run until 04:00, and covers often include a drink.

The neighbourhoods

Sukhumvit & Nana — mainstream clubs, cabaret and the go-go strips

Soi 11 has Levels Club and Havana Social, Phrom Phong has Baccarat and Bar Us, and Sing Sing Theater is on Soi 45. Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are the go-go bar areas here.

Thonglor & Ekkamai — design bars and the Siwilai disco

Dry Wave Cocktail Studio, Octave, Thaipioka and Siwilai Radical Club. Polished, pricier and mostly for people who dress up. 12 x 12 is the small underground room.

Silom & Patpong — techno, queer clubs and one red-light market

Mustache, Subwerk 3.0, Elsewhere and DUAL for electronic music, DJ Station for the gay scene, and Vesper and ÆTHER for drinks. Patpong's night market and go-go bars are a short walk away.

Sathorn & Riverside — rooftops and hotel jazz

Sky Bar at lebua, Vertigo and Moon Bar and the Bamboo Bar. Expensive, dress-coded and best before midnight.

RCA & Ratchada — big mainstream clubs

Route 66 and Onyx on Royal City Avenue, in the RCA late-licence zone. Public transport is thin, so you arrive and leave by Grab.

Khao San & Old Town — backpacker street and one house room

Khao San Road is cheap beer and buckets. Culture Cafe on Samsen Road is a house-music room that is free to enter.

Chinatown & Yaowarat — small bars on Soi Nana

G.O.D, Teens of Thailand and Tep Bar are cocktail bars in old shophouses. Bar Temp. is the underground house club on Maitri Chit Road.

At the door

Getting in

The legal age for alcohol and for entering licensed clubs is 20. Bring your passport or a clear photo of it. Some clubs, including Mustache and Sing Sing Theater, want the physical ID. Smart casual is the rule at most clubs: no singlets, sports shorts or sandals. Rooftop bars ask men for long trousers and closed shoes. Visibly drunk guests are refused. Thailand's drug laws are severe and spot checks with urine tests happen in tourist areas. Vapes are illegal.

What it costs to get in

Most club covers are ฿200–500 (about €5–13) and often include a drink. Guest-DJ nights cost more: ฿500–700 (about €13–18) at Siwilai Radical Club and Onyx, and up to ฿1,700 for special guests at Mustache. Culture Cafe has no cover and most bars are free to enter. ÆTHER has free entry too, and the rooftops make their money on drinks.

Getting home

The BTS and MRT run roughly 06:00 to midnight. After that, use Grab or Bolt. Metered taxis start at ฿35 and passengers pay expressway tolls of ฿20–50. Late at night some taxis near nightlife areas refuse the meter and quote flat fares, so use an app. The Department of Land Transport hotline for bad drivers is 1584.

What visitors get wrong

Treat midnight as a cliff

The BTS, the MRT and shop alcohol sales all stop around midnight. Ride the train to your first venue, then plan the way home before 23:30.

Use Grab or Bolt, not a street taxi

The fare is fixed before you get in. Bolt is cheaper but less regulated. If you flag a taxi, insist on the meter and leave if the driver refuses.

Ignore touts

The "free ping-pong show" on Patpong ends in a padded drinks bill. In Nana and Soi Cowboy, lady drinks and unpriced bars add up fast. Check a price list before you sit.

Ask about the closing time

A late licence belongs to a venue, not a street. Ask the door staff, or look for a posted certificate near the entrance. After the Lat Phrao pub fire on 12 July 2026, Bangkok inspected hundreds of venues and temporarily closed 56, so confirm a place is open before you travel.

Mind your drink

Do not leave it unattended. Drink only branded, sealed bottles, because methanol in poor-quality spirits can be fatal.

Rain closes rooftops

Vertigo and Moon Bar closes when it rains, and the wet season runs from June to November. Call ahead before you go up.

Why this city is like this

Number one in the world

Time Out ranked Bangkok first in its 2026 Best Cities for Nightlife, published on 26 August 2026. The city was 13th the year before.

The 04:00 licence started in December 2023

A ministerial regulation published on 15 December 2023 let licensed venues in designated Bangkok zones stay open until 04:00. Hotel venues were included.

Eight bars in Asia's top 50

The 2026 list has Dry Wave Cocktail Studio at number 4, Bar Us at 6 and Lennon's at 7. Four more Bangkok bars sit on the 51–100 list.

Patpong dates from 1946

Luang Patpongpanich, an immigrant from Hainan, bought the land that year. It became a designated entertainment zone in 2004, and a night market has run there since the early 1990s.
