Glasgow nightlife is built around music. The city has some of the best live rooms in Britain, from King Tut's to the Barrowland Ballroom, and one of the longest-running underground clubs anywhere in the Sub Club, open on Jamaica Street since 1987. Most of it sits in a walkable centre: Sauchiehall Street for gigs and cheap club nights, the Merchant City for bars and LGBTQ+ nights, Finnieston and the West End for cocktails and SWG3. Clubs close at 03:00, and those with a late licence run to 04:00. Entry is cheap, often £5–10. Worth knowing: the Subway stops at 23:40, or 18:12 on Sunday, so plan on a night bus, a taxi or the walk home.

The live rooms are the reason to come. The Barrowland Ballroom holds 1,900 people on a sprung floor under its neon sign, King Tut's has put on bands since 1990, and Stereo and Nice N Sleazy run gigs in their basements most nights. Gig doors are usually at 19:00, which leaves the rest of the night for a club.
The clubs are small, and they finish early by European standards. Sub Club holds about 410 people, La Cheetah is a basement on Queen Street and the Berkeley Suite is a restored ballroom. Most nights run from 23:00 to 03:00, and the clubs with a late licence carry on to 04:00.
Getting home is the part to plan. The Subway closes at 23:40 from Monday to Saturday and at 18:12 on Sunday. After that you have the Friday and Saturday night buses from the city centre, a black cab, or the walk.

The Marlborough opened in 2025 in the old Shed nightclub, and the Rum Shack pairs rum and Caribbean food with gigs.
