Osaka

Osaka nightlife runs on a ticket, one drink and the last train. The clubs sit in two clusters in the south of the city, Minami. Amerikamura, the streets of Nishi-Shinsaibashi around Triangle Park, holds Club Joule at 2-11-7 and Circus at 1-8-16, the two rooms that book international DJs: Hernan Cattaneo headlines Joule on Friday 6 November 2026 and Circus lists Craig Richards on Monday 2 November. Soemoncho and Dotonbori hold Blvck Water, a basement that opens at 23:00 and runs to 07:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and Giraffe Japan, a fifth-floor club on Dotonbori open from 22:00 to 04:00. Umeda, in the north, has the live-music room Umeda Club Quattro, and Nakanoshima has the hotel bars. Door prices are lower than in most European capitals: ¥1,500 at Teranoma Tidepool, ¥2,000 to ¥3,000 at Circus and ¥3,500 to ¥4,000 at Joule. Photo ID is asked for, Circus refuses under-20s at events that start after 22:00, and several doors include or require one drink. Worth knowing: Osaka Tourism puts the last metro at about midnight, so a night that starts at 23:00 is planned around a taxi or the first trains at about 05:00.

Getting home
Last metro, then taxi
Osaka Tourism says the subway runs from about 05:00 to about midnight, with some last departures just after midnight, so check your own station on the Osaka Metro timetable before you go out. A club night that starts at 23:00 is built around the gap: Blvck Water's listing tells guests to come after the last train and leave on the first. Taxis carry a 20% late-night surcharge after 22:00, according to the same guide. The Amerikamura clubs are about a 5 to 6-minute walk from Yotsubashi Station (Yotsubashi line) and Shinsaibashi Station (Midosuji line), and Umeda Club Quattro is about 7 minutes from JR Osaka Station and Umeda Station.
◑
Age limit
20+
The drinking age in Japan is 20. Circus asks for photo ID and refuses guests under 20 at events that start after 22:00, and BAR Inc lists 20+. Resident Advisor lists 18+ for Joule (6 November 2026), Blvck Water (23 October) and Teranoma Tidepool (24 October), but alcohol is sold to customers aged 20 and over. Leach Bar limits access to customers over 18. Osaka Tourism advises bringing a passport, since clubs may ask for ID at the door.

What to expect

Each night is a ticketed event with one drink attached. Osaka club nights are listed one by one with a promoter, a line-up and a door price. Circus lists MONZA on Saturday 24 October 2026 at ¥2,000 with a flyer or before 00:00 and ¥3,000 at the door. Teranoma Tidepool charges ¥1,500, which includes one drink before 22:00 and requires one after. Blvck Water's Saturday price of ¥3,000 includes one drink, with a ¥2,500 discount tier. Joule sells advance tickets on Peatix and Resident Advisor at ¥3,500 for 6 November, ¥500 below the door price.

The rooms are in ordinary buildings, not warehouses. Joule runs over floors 2 to 4 of a building on Nishi-Shinsaibashi, Circus is on the second floor of the Nakanishi Building, Blvck Water is in the basement of the Grace Soemoncho Building, BAR Inc is a basement in Minamisenba and Giraffe Japan is on the fifth floor of the Nakaza Kuidaore Building on Dotonbori. Expect stairs and small lifts rather than a long queue in the street. The one large concert venue on the list, Umeda Club Quattro, is on the tenth floor of Plaza Umeda and has 322 coin lockers.

The night is planned around the last train. Metro service stops at about midnight and restarts at about 05:00. Circus and Blvck Water open at 23:00 on their weekend nights, Joule lists 22:00 to 05:00 for 6 November, and BAR Inc starts earlier, at 20:00. Bars and hotel lounges stop before the clubs get busy: Leach Bar and Crudo Deck close at 00:00, and 40 Sky Bar closes at 22:30 from Sunday to Tuesday.

The neighbourhoods

Amerikamura (Nishi-Shinsaibashi) — the club streets

Club Joule at 2-11-7 and Circus at 1-8-16 Nishi-Shinsaibashi. Triangle Park, officially Mitsu Park, is the hub, and Osaka Tourism says the streets around it hold most of the city's best clubs. Shinsaibashi (Midosuji line) and Yotsubashi (Yotsubashi line) stations are each about five minutes on foot. Shops run to about 20:00 and many bars and cafés stay open later; the area is cheaper than Kitashinchi and Dotonbori.

Soemoncho and Dotonbori — the late rooms

Blvck Water at 7-6 Soemoncho and Giraffe Japan on the fifth floor of the Nakaza Kuidaore Building at 1-7-21 Dotonbori. This is the district for 04:00 and 07:00 finishes.

Namba and Sennichimae — house and a rooftop

Teranoma Tidepool at 4-19 Nambasennichimae and the Crudo Deck rooftop on the 33rd floor of the Centara Grand Hotel at 2-11-50 Nanbanaka.

Minamisenba — the early basement

BAR Inc at 3-10-19 Minamisenba, with nights that begin at 20:00.

Umeda and Doyamacho — concerts and gay bars

Umeda Club Quattro on the tenth floor of Plaza Umeda. Osaka Tourism places the gay club Explosion Osaka and the bar-club Frenz Frenzy in Doyamacho, near Umeda, and lists a men-only Explosion night in October 2026 at ¥3,200 to ¥3,800 including one drink.

Nakanoshima and Tenma — hotel bars and a taproom

40 Sky Bar & Lounge at the Conrad Osaka (3-2-4 Nakanoshima), Leach Bar at the Rihga Royal Hotel (5-3-68 Nakanoshima) and Beer Belly Tenma inside Tenma Market, three minutes from JR Tenma Station.

At the door

Getting in

Carry a passport or other photo ID. Circus states that photo ID is required and that under-20s are refused at events starting after 22:00. Culture Trip reports that Joule asks for ID such as a passport, and Resident Advisor lists 18+ for the nights checked there. BAR Inc lists 20+. Giraffe Japan publishes no door rules and its site points to ticket resellers.

Dress and tattoos

Osaka Tourism reports smart casual at Joule, sneakers accepted and no shorts at weekends, and dark, simple clothes for Circus. Crudo Deck states smart casual on the hotel page. Tattoo rules are rarely published: Headout's listing for OWL Osaka, a hip-hop and EDM club in Umeda, restricts guests with tattoos or tattoo stickers and bans jerseys, sweatshirts, tank tops, work clothes and sandals. None of the venues in this guide state a tattoo rule on their own pages.

Paying and lockers

Osaka Tourism advises cash at the door, with some clubs taking cards and card readers sometimes failing in dim light, and recommends asking about lockers or a cloakroom. Umeda Club Quattro lists 322 coin lockers that may run out at busy shows. Many small bars in Osaka are cash only.

One drink and the door fee

Teranoma Tidepool includes one drink in the ¥1,500 before 22:00 and requires one after. Blvck Water's Saturday price includes one drink ("1D") and its Friday price lists a ¥700 "1D" add-on. Osaka Tourism lists OWL Osaka at ¥1,500 for men from Sunday to Thursday between 21:00 and 23:00, including one drink, and ¥2,500 after 23:00.

Licences and the law

Dancing venues in Japan operate under the Act on Control and Improvement of Amusement Business, known as the Fueiho. A 2016 revision let clubs that serve alcohol apply for a specified licence (Tokutei Yukyo Inshokuten Eigyo) to stay open through the night; Stamp the Wax reported in June 2015 that applicants need the approval of the local public safety commission and lighting above 10 lux in seating areas, and that clubs without the licence stay classed as adult entertainment and must close between midnight and sunrise. The Act was amended again in May 2025, with the changes in force from June 2025, according to the National Police Agency. That amendment targets businesses that entertain customers or serve food and drink, such as host clubs: it bars false explanations of charges, serving unordered drinks and intimidation to make customers pay, and raises the penalty for unlicensed operation to up to five years in prison or a fine of up to ¥10 million. No 2026 change specific to dance clubs was found, and the venues in this guide list nights that run to 03:00, 04:00, 05:00 and 07:00.

Cheap night — from about ¥2,330

A pint at Beer Belly Tenma (¥830) and the Teranoma Tidepool door with one drink before 22:00 (¥1,500). The metro covers the way there; the way home is the 05:00 trains.

Normal night — ¥3,000 to ¥4,000 at the door

Circus (¥3,000 for MONZA), Blvck Water (¥3,000 with one drink on Saturday) or Joule (¥4,000 at the door on 6 November), plus drinks, whose prices the clubs do not publish. Add the 20% taxi surcharge if you do not wait for the first trains.

Big night — from about ¥8,250

A cover and cocktail at 40 Sky Bar (¥1,650 plus ¥2,600) followed by the Joule door (¥4,000), before a taxi home.

What visitors get wrong

Bring photo ID, every time

Circus requires it for entry and Osaka Tourism advises a passport. For under-20s, Circus does not admit anyone to events that start after 22:00.

Decide how you get home before 23:00

The metro stops at about midnight. Blvck Water's listing says to come after the last train and leave on the first, and taxis add 20% after 22:00. Check the last departure from your own station.

Use the early ticket

Joule's advance ticket for 6 November is ¥500 below the door price, Circus lowered MONZA to ¥2,000 with a flyer or before 00:00, and Teranoma Tidepool includes the first drink before 22:00.

Find the right door

Joule's entrance is the stairs beside the FLORIDA Amerikamura vintage shop, and back-door events use the lift beside LIVEHOUSE BRONZE next to the Lawson. Circus is on the second floor of the Nakanishi Building and Blvck Water is in the basement of the Grace Soemoncho Building, so look for the building name.

Carry cash

Osaka Tourism says to pay cash at the door, because some clubs take cards and readers can fail in dim light. Most small bars, especially standing bars, are cash only.

Eat first for Circus

Osaka Tourism notes that Circus opens later than most venues, so dinner comes first.

Avoid the look-alike site

Giraffe Japan's official site warns that giraffe-osaka.net is not affiliated with it. Tickets go through KLOOK, GetYourGuide, Viator or Trip.com, which the site says charge the same price.

Keep the phone away on the dance floor

Osaka Tourism says photography on the dance floor is generally frowned upon and that you should ask before photographing strangers.

Why this city is like this

A club that has been open since 1999

Club Joule says it was established in 1999. Its Spectacular night marks a 7th anniversary on Friday 6 November 2026, with Hernan Cattaneo headlining.

A hotel bar from 1965

Time Out says Leach Bar at the Rihga Royal Hotel opened in 1965 and serves its gin and tonic in a copper mug.

A variety show before the club

Giraffe Japan runs the Osaka Variety Act Show from 19:00 to 22:00 on the same fifth floor where the night club starts at 22:00. The site gives 18 April 2025 as the reopening date.

A law from 1948

The Fueiho was set in 1948 and kept dancing venues under adult-entertainment rules until a revision took effect in 2016, according to Stamp the Wax and Mixmag.

322 coin lockers

Umeda Club Quattro lists 322 coin lockers, which the venue says may be unavailable during heavy attendance.

A 12-metre counter

Beer Belly Tenma, the Minoh Beer taproom in Tenma Market, has a 12-metre counter and lists 15 beers on tap or hand pump.
