Bucharest

Bucharest nightlife splits into two evenings. The first is in the Old Town and around Universitate: cocktail bars, rooftops and the pedestrian streets of Lipscani. The second is further out, in factories and halls where Expirat, Platforma Wolff, Forge and Club Guesthouse run until 06:00 or later. Doors open at 22:00 or 23:00, floors fill after midnight, and club entry is 30–60 lei (€6–11). Control and Nether Club sit in the centre, between the two. Most club nights are 18+. Worth knowing: some Old Town bars inflate bills, so ask for a priced menu and check every line before you pay.

What to expect

Two nights fit the city, and they happen in different places. The Old Town and Universitate hold the cocktail bars, rooftops and the central clubs. Expirat, Platforma Wolff and Club Guesthouse are in the south, around Sector 4, and Forge is out east. Plan one night for each, and book the ride between them.

The clubs are cheap and they run late. Control charged 40–50 lei (about €8–9) and Nether Club 30–50 lei on recent listed nights, and Club Guesthouse charged 60 lei at the door. A cocktail at Bartini costs 47–55 lei, about the same as a club door. Guesthouse ran from 23:00 to 08:00 on 10 October.

The Old Town needs care. Lipscani is the busiest tourist strip, and a safety guide updated in March 2026 warns that tourist-focused venues there may inflate bills, charge for items you did not order or hand you menus without prices. Look for a printed price list before you sit down, and check the bill line by line.

Who this city is for

Techno and electronic fans

Club Guesthouse, Forge, Nether Club and Platforma Wolff book international and local names, and Control adds a second room.

Gig-goers

Quantic for rock and metal, Expirat for live shows and Control for indie and electronic concerts.

Cocktail drinkers

Bartini, The Owl, Sera Eden and GinOteca pour serious drinks without a club attached.

Rooftop people

Linea, Nomad Skybar and Bartini give views over the Old Town and the streets around Universitate.

Budget travellers

Club doors are 30–60 lei, and a draught beer averages about 18 lei in a crowd-sourced price index.

Late finishers

Friday and Saturday nights routinely run to 05:00 or 06:00, and Club Guesthouse stretched to 08:00.

Not for you if you want a walkable club crawl. The best clubs are spread across the city, and the metro stops at about 23:00.

How the night runs

18:00

Craft beer at Fabrica de Bere Buna, or an early cocktail at Sera Eden or GinOteca. GinOteca closes at 23:00.

20:00

Rooftops fill. Bartini, Nomad Skybar and Linea are all open, and Expirat opens its doors on Fridays and Saturdays.

22:00

First doors at Control on listed Friday nights. Bars in the Old Town and around Universitate are in full swing.

23:00

Last metro, at about this time. Guesthouse, Nether Club and Forge open, and you need a ride from here.

02:00

Floors are full. Nomad Skybar, Linea and Bartini start to close on weekdays, and the weekend bars run on.

05:00

Top nights out

Spend a Friday at Control

Two rooms, the Berlin Room and the Front Room, with a club night from 22:00 to 06:00. Presale was 40 lei and the door 50 lei on 9 October.

Go south for a Guesthouse Saturday

Doors at 23:00, a no-photo policy and a selective door. The night on 10 October ran until 08:00 and cost 60 lei.

Catch a gig at Quantic

Rock and metal concerts from 65 lei, with a bar and terrace open from 09:00 to 04:00.

Drink a martini at Bartini

The top floor of Constantin Mille 18 serves martinis at 47–55 lei, with stairs from the M floor and a 03:00 close at weekends.

Eat at Caru' cu Bere

A neo-Gothic beer hall with beer from an 1879 recipe. It opens 10:00–00:00, and the venue asks for reservations 24 hours ahead.

Try an open-air night at Platforma Wolff

A Danley Sound Labs system and 40–60 lei tickets. Some nights are outdoors, so check the event first.

The neighbourhoods

Lipscani (Old Town) — bars and tourist crowds

Pedestrian streets, rooftops and the busiest bars in the city. Interbelic, Linea, Nomad Skybar, Caru' cu Bere and Mojo Club are here. Check prices before you order.

Universitate & Romană — central clubs and cocktail bars

Control, Nook, Nether Club, Bartini, Sera Eden and GinOteca. The easiest area to start and finish in.

Victoriei & Cișmigiu — craft beer and quiet cocktails

Fabrica de Bere Buna on Calea Victoriei and The Owl on Strada Știrbei Vodă. Calmer and earlier than the Old Town.

Herăstrău & Floreasca — lakeside terraces

Fratelli Herăstrău and Hard Rock Cafe sit by the park. Floreasca has upscale lounges, but we could not verify a club there as operating in 2026.

Unirii & Sector 4 — the big halls

Club Guesthouse, Expirat, Platforma Wolff and B52 The Club. Longer nights, further from the centre, and a ride needed to get home.

Outer Bucharest — gigs and hard techno

Quantic in the west for rock and metal, and Forge on Șoseaua Pantelimon in the east for hard techno.

At the door

Getting in

Most club nights listed on Resident Advisor are 18+, and some Old Town nights, such as Interbelic's Caramelo and Love You Bye, are 21+. Carry ID. Club Guesthouse runs a no-photo policy and reserves the right to select its audience. Control, Nether Club and Forge post line-ups on Resident Advisor, so know who is playing before you queue.

What it costs to get in

Expect 30–60 lei (about €6–11). Control was 40 lei in presale or 50 lei at the door, Nether Club 30–50 lei, Club Guesthouse 60 lei at the door, Platforma Wolff 40–60 lei and Expirat 50–60 lei. Nether Club took cash at the door in July, so carry some lei.

Getting home

The metro runs about 05:00–23:00, so it is not an option after a club night. STB runs 25 night lines, but after a Sector 4 or Pantelimon night most people use Bolt or Uber. Avoid unlicensed taxis at the airport and the train stations: a March 2026 safety guide warns that they quote inflated flat rates or manipulate the meter.

What visitors get wrong

Ask for the priced menu in Lipscani

A March 2026 safety guide warns that tourist-focused Old Town venues may show menus without prices. If you cannot see prices, leave.

Check the bill line by line

The same guide mentions charges for items you did not order. Ask for an itemised bill, and keep an eye on your phone in crowded bars.

Buy presale

Control was 40 lei in presale and 50 lei at the door. Platforma Wolff's August night had community, presale and door tiers of 40, 50 and 60 lei.

Carry some cash

Nether Club took 40 lei in cash at the door in July. Cards work at most bars, but a door can be cash only.

Order a ride, not a street taxi

Use Bolt or Uber for the ride home, and avoid unlicensed taxis at the airport and the train stations.

Leave the phone in your pocket at Guesthouse

The club has a no-photo clubbing policy and reserves the right to select its audience.

Why this city is like this

Caru' cu Bere pours from an 1879 recipe

The neo-Gothic building on Strada Stavropoleos was designed by Zigfrid Kofczinski and Al. Pesch and is a historic monument.

Hanul lui Manuc dates from 1806

The inn on Strada Franceză is tied to the negotiations of a peace treaty in 1812, according to its own site.

The metro opened in 1979

The first line opened on 16 November 1979, and the network now has five lines.

A factory became a club

Expirat Halele Carol is a refurbished factory with room for about 500, and Platforma Wolff, a DJ bar on the same street, marked five years in August 2026.
