Rotterdam nightlife is built into the spaces the port left behind: a pedestrian tunnel under the Weena, a grain silo on the Maashaven, a railway hall beside Rotterdam Zuid station and a basement in the old M4H docks. The bars sit closer in, on and around Witte de Withstraat. Doors open at 23:00, the floor fills after midnight and most clubs close between 04:00 and 05:00, though Export holds a 24-hour licence. Techno is the backbone, with Latin, Afro and hip-hop nights in the centre. Worth knowing: NS runs an hourly night train to Amsterdam, so a night here does not have to end at midnight.

One night is enough, two if you want both ends of it. The bar street and the harbour venues are a fifteen-minute cycle apart and they are different evenings.
It fills earlier than Amsterdam. Doors at eleven, floor at one. People here do not wait as long, partly because most rooms close at four or five rather than running into the morning.
The industrial spaces are the reason to come. A grain silo on the Maashaven, a railway maintenance hall at Rotterdam Zuid, a warehouse basement in the M4H docks. Cold until the room fills, and loud in a way the older cities cannot manage.
The hardest bookings in the country, consistently, from a tunnel under the Weena to a grain silo on the Maashaven.
Doors are more relaxed and lines shorter than in Amsterdam.
The nightlife lives inside the post-war rebuild: concrete, glass and harbour cranes.
Toffler's door is under fifteen euros, Club Coco at Coconuts is free, and Ferry charges nothing before midnight on Fridays.
Summer harbour events and a large outdoor season along the water.
Forty minutes by train, and the night train back runs hourly, so you do not have to leave before the clubs fill.
Not for you if you want pretty. This is a working city, and at three in the morning it looks like one.
Bars on Witte de Withstraat.
Club doors open. Second bar, or straight to the club.
People actually arrive.
Peak.
Sahara and Annabel close. The bike racks start to empty.
Toffler closes. Export, with a 24-hour licence, can keep going.
Maassilo stored grain until 2003. Concrete, cranes outside, and a sound system that is the entire point.
One street, a dozen bars, and the easiest warm-up in the country.
The old sailors' quarter, over the Rijnhaven bridge locals still call the Hoerenloper. Cocktail bars and restaurants now, not clubs.
Shawarma, fries and cheese in a tray. It started at a Delfshaven snack bar in 2003.
A street parade with sound systems, followed by parties across the city.
Celest, on the 57th floor of the Zalmhaven tower, has free entry and stays open until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Toffler under the Weena, Annabel and Sahara in the Schieblock near Rotterdam Centraal, Latin nights on the Stadhuisplein. The easiest option if you are catching a train.
Where the night starts. Bars back to back, busy from eight, with WORM, Superdisco and the queer club Ferry within a few streets.
BIRD under the old Hofbogen railway viaduct and small dance cafés nearby. Local, mixed and quieter.
Former docks west of the centre, about fifteen minutes by bike. Export, a 24-hour basement club, opened in the Keilepand in 2025.
Maassilo and Now&Wow in a grain silo, Shunter in a railway hall by Rotterdam Zuid station. Mostly events rather than weekly clubs.
Cocktails in the old sailors' quarter and a seventh-floor bar on the Wilhelminapier facing the Erasmus Bridge. No clubs, but the best views.
Easier than Amsterdam. Most club nights are 18+, the odd one 21+, so check the ticket page and bring photo ID. Still no big groups. Dress hardly matters at the techno clubs, where a queue full of black jackets is the norm, but Maassilo's house rules ban caps, tracksuits, football shirts and sports shoes, and the skybars ask for smart casual. Toffler has had a no-phone policy since reopening in January 2026.
Ten to twenty euros on a normal weekend: a Friday at Toffler is €14.50. Club Coco at Coconuts is free, Ferry is free until midnight on Fridays, and a three-day Shunter weekender costs €25. The big Maassilo raves sell out in advance.
The metro stops around 00:30. RET's night buses only run at weekends, so most people cycle or split a taxi. If you came from Amsterdam, NS runs an hourly night train from Rotterdam Centraal via Den Haag, Leiden and Schiphol, every night of the week.
| Club entry | €10–20 |
| Beer in a club | €4–6 |
| Cocktail | €10–13 |
| Cloakroom | €2.50 |
| Night bus | €4.50 |
| Taxi across town | €15 |

Two bars, a ten euro door, four beers, bike home.
Club door, five drinks, cloakroom, a shared taxi.
Harbour event ticket, drinks, and a taxi you did not plan for.
If you came from Amsterdam, NS runs a night train every hour from Rotterdam Centraal via Den Haag, Leiden and Schiphol. Slower than the day train, but it means you can stay until the end.
They warm up when the room fills. Do not arrive at eleven in a t-shirt.
Night buses only run at weekends and the clubs are spread out. A bike gets you between them faster.
Cheap, busy, and completely different from the weekend crowd.
It is a ten-minute cycle over the bridge.
They are the only things here that reliably sell out.
Shawarma, fries, cheese and salad, first put together in 2003 at El Aviva, a snack bar in Delfshaven, for a hairdresser who wanted all his favourites in one tray. Kapsalon means hair salon.
The city centre was destroyed in a single bombing raid on 14 May 1940. Only a handful of buildings survived, including the Laurenskerk and City Hall, which is why there is almost no old architecture to build clubs inside.
It was the world's busiest port from 1962 to 2004. Maassilo, now one of the city's biggest rave venues, stored grain on the Maashaven until 2003.
Rotterdam's early-nineties scene, from the Parkzicht parties to Rotterdam Records, gave the Netherlands its hardest export, and the echo is still audible in the bookings.
Yes. The day train takes about forty minutes, and NS runs an hourly night train back via Den Haag, Leiden and Schiphol every night. It is slower, but you do not have to leave before the clubs fill.
Usually, on the door at least. A Friday techno night at Toffler is €14.50, Club Coco at Coconuts is free and Ferry is free until midnight on Fridays.
Less than Amsterdam. Come in twos or threes, be sober enough to walk straight, and you will be fine.
Most close between 04:00 and 05:00: Sahara and Annabel at four, Toffler at five. Export in the M4H docks holds a 24-hour licence and can run later.
Start on Witte de Withstraat for bars, then pick one direction: the clubs around Rotterdam Centraal, the Maashaven for Maassilo, or the M4H docks for Export.
A night in a harbour warehouse. It is the thing this city does that no other Dutch city can.
See which clubs and bars are open right now, who is playing and where to get tickets. Live in four cities, with more on the way.
