Copenhagen

Copenhagen nightlife is built around late finishes and a metro that never stops. Cocktail bars close around 02:00, club doors open at 22:00 or 23:00, and the best rooms keep going until 08:00 or 09:00. The techno and house clubs sit in the old town around Axeltorv and Kongens Have and on Refshaleøen, the industrial island across the harbour. Kødbyen, the old meatpacking district, does bars and small clubs; Vesterbro and Nørrebro do cocktails and craft beer. Expect 150–195 kr (€20–26) on a club door and a 20+ limit at many of them. Worth knowing: the metro runs 24 hours a day, every 7–15 minutes after 01:00 on Friday and Saturday nights.

What to expect

The night runs late, and the end of it is cheap. Bars close around 02:00, but the main clubs keep going: Culture Box and MODULE to 08:00, Den Anden Side to 09:00. Entry drops to about 100 kr (€13) after 05:30 or 06:00, so a late start costs less.

Refshaleøen is where the big bookings go. Hangaren, Klub Werkstatt and Poolen sit within a few hundred metres of each other on Refshalevej, in a former hangar, an engine workshop and a warehouse. There is no metro on the island, so plan the ride home before you go.

Doors and age limits are stricter than the rest of the city suggests. Bars serve from 18, but many clubs set 20+ and some 21+. The house and techno clubs choose their crowd at the door, and several ban photography inside.

Who this city is for

Techno and house

Culture Box, MODULE, Den Anden Side and the Refshaleøen venues book international DJs every weekend.

Late finishers

Three clubs run to 08:00 or later, and the metro is there when you come out.

Craft beer drinkers

The first Mikkeller bar, Warpigs in Kødbyen and BRUS in Nørrebro all brew or pour their own.

Cocktail people

Ruby, Lidkoeb and Curfew are three very different rooms within a short ride of each other.

Live music

VEGA, Pumpehuset, RUST, Loppen and Jazzhus Montmartre give you a concert before the club.

Visitors without a plan for getting home

The 24-hour metro makes the city centre, Vesterbro and Nørrebro easy at any hour.

Not for you if you want cheap drinks. A cocktail costs about 130 kr (€17) and a draught beer in a club 50–55 kr (€7).

At the door

Getting in

Bring photo ID. Culture Box and Poolen are 18+, Den Anden Side, Hangaren, MODULE and KB3 are 20+, and RUST's nightclub, Klub Werkstatt and Baggen are 21+. Den Anden Side's door curates the crowd and stops letting people in an hour before closing; Hangaren lets nobody in after 05:00. Several clubs ban photography and run awareness teams, so leave the phone in your pocket.

What it costs to get in

Usually 120–195 kr (€16–26). MODULE charges 120 kr before 01:00 and 170 kr after; Culture Box and MODULE drop to 100 kr after 06:00, Den Anden Side after 05:30. Small clubs cost 75–90 kr and headline raves on Refshaleøen up to 399 kr. At Hangaren a presale ticket does not guarantee entry.

Getting home

The metro runs 24/7: every 7–15 minutes after 01:00 on Friday and Saturday, every 20 minutes on weeknights. N-buses fill the gaps. Refshaleøen has no metro, so cycle or take a taxi: a 10 km ride at night costs about 286 kr (€38) with Dantaxi. With the Rejsekort app, travel outside rush hour is 20% cheaper.
