Nijmegen nightlife is a student city's night with a few serious rooms attached. The Molenstraat is the student strip, and Bar 2 lists a 04:00 close every night. Doornroosje by the station and Merleyn on the Hertogstraat book the gigs and club nights, the Honigcomplex by the Waal holds Waalhalla and Brebl, and Mesh in the Vasim runs house and techno until 06:00. Wine, vinyl and old pubs fill the Bloemerstraat and the Grote Markt. In July the Vierdaagsefeesten turn the whole centre into a free festival for seven days. Worth knowing: Nijmegen has no hourly night train. NS runs an extra late train around 01:00 at weekends between Utrecht and Arnhem/Nijmegen, so plan to cycle or stay out.

This is a student city first. The Molenstraat is the main student party street, and Into Nijmegen tells new students that every day of the week has a party. Vox Magazine called the street's offer mostly mainstream and repetitive in 2024, so come for cheap, loud and easy rather than a curated night.
The better rooms are a short walk from it. Doornroosje and Merleyn programme gigs and club nights through the autumn, the Honigcomplex holds Waalhalla and Brebl, and the Bloemerstraat has a vinyl bar, a wine bar and a collective café with parties in its basement. Mesh, a house and techno club in the Vasim, lists nights from 23:59 to 06:00.
July changes everything. The Vierdaagsefeesten run for seven days around the Nijmegen Four Days Marches, with more than one million visits, 46 stages and 300 outdoor bars. The 2026 Marches started on Tuesday 21 July with more than 45,000 walkers. Outside July, a normal weekend is quieter and mostly student.
Bar 2, Club Van Buren and Café De Fuik sit in the Molenstraat and Walstraten area, and most of the city's student nights start there.
Doornroosje and Merleyn programme touring bands and club nights, and Brebl books jazz and electronic music, with dance nights at €5 and a free Wednesday jam session.
Mesh in the Vasim opened in summer 2023 and has listed nights from 23:59 to 06:00. It bans photos and video.
Poederdoos at Merleyn and ICONIC at Doornroosje are queer parties on the 2026 calendar, and AZOTH runs queer nights at Mesh.
Bar Lebowski and Paak on the Bloemerstraat, and In de Blaauwe Hand, a pub whose hospitality tradition goes back to 1542.
The Vierdaagsefeesten in July are free to walk into and spread over 46 stages in the centre.
Not for you if you want a large commercial club with a bottle-service door. We found none in Nijmegen that we could verify for 2026, and the Molenstraat leans on the same student formula every night.
First drinks. De Waagh and Café Daen have terraces on the Grote Markt, and Paak opens on Wednesday at 17:00 (from 13:00 Thursday to Sunday).
Bar 2 opens on the Molenstraat, and a Brebl night such as De Platenbus starts at 20:30.
A listed night at Mesh started at 23:59. Doornroosje club nights, such as The Blend, run on their own schedule.
Bar Lebowski lists a 01:00 close on Friday and Saturday, and the extra weekend train between Utrecht and Arnhem/Nijmegen runs around this time.
Café Samson closes, and In de Blaauwe Hand closes on Friday and Saturday.
Bar 2 closes every night, and Paak closes on Friday.
Mesh nights end. The first buses and trains run in the morning, and the RRReis bus network says it connects better to trains in the early morning.
Temples play Doornroosje on 4 November and Hatebreed with Life of Agony on 19 November. Merleyn runs Indie Disco on 24 October and the Poederdoos queer party on 7 November.
Winselingseweg 41 in the Vasim, house and techno from 23:59 to 06:00 on listed nights, 18+. Buy tickets online and leave the camera in your pocket.
Seven days, 46 stages and 130 terraces across the centre, free to walk into. The next edition is listed for 17–23 July 2027.
Brebl and Waalhalla share the Waalbandijk. Brebl's Friday dance nights have cost €5, and its free JazzBites jam session runs on Wednesdays.
Natural wines at Bar Lebowski, vinyl and cocktails at Paak, then the basement of Café De Plak for a party.
During carnival Nijmegen calls itself Knotsenburg. The 2026 parade brought floats back for the first time in three years, with 24 groups taking part.
Bar 2 (open 20:00 to 04:00 every day), Club Van Buren and Café De Fuik on the Eerste Walstraat. Loud, busy and cheap, and the first place first-years learn.
In de Blaauwe Hand, Café Samson, Café Daen and De Waagh around the market square, and Bar Ruygh on the Koningstraat for a younger crowd.
Doornroosje on the Stationsplein and Merleyn on the Hertogstraat, a few streets apart.
Paak, Bar Lebowski and Café De Plak. This is the quieter, more mixed side of the centre.
WERF on the Waalkade, and the Honig factory complex with Waalhalla, Brebl and the Oersoep brewpub. Lent, the district across the Waal, has a hotel bar but no late venue we could verify.
Mesh sits in the Vasim, an industrial area outside the centre. Go by bike or taxi.
Alcohol is sold from 18 and venues check ID. Mesh lists its nights as 18+ and bans photos and video. The student cafés of the Molenstraat do not publish a door policy, so expect a normal ID check. Doornroosje and Merleyn set age rules per event.
Student cafés list no cover charge. Brebl's Friday dance night cost €5 and its concerts €12.50 to €22.50 this autumn. Mesh and Doornroosje club nights are ticketed per event, so check the listing.
Most people walk or cycle. NS runs an extra late train between Utrecht and Arnhem/Nijmegen on Friday and Saturday nights at the normal fare. A taxi costs at most €4.31 to start, €3.17 per kilometre and €0.52 per minute in 2026, about €19 for three kilometres in ten minutes. Breng became RRReis on 28 June 2026, but we could not confirm a night-bus timetable, so check 9292.

The Doornroosje website also lists Merleyn and Waalhalla. Big names sell out: Autechre, Fischer-Z and BLØF were all sold out by mid-October.
Photos and video are banned inside, according to Vox.
Record Store Sessions with live music are free every Thursday, and the bar stays open until 04:00 on Friday.
A closure introduced in March 2024 shut the Arksteestraat, Van Welderenstraat, Molenstraat and both Walstraten to through traffic from 21:00 to 06:00. We could not confirm its 2026 status, so ask your taxi where it can stop.
NS runs an extra late train at weekends. Keolis has notified weekend night trains between Zwolle, Arnhem and Nijmegen from 1 January 2027, but they are not guaranteed.
Doornroosje started in 1970. Its website now lists Merleyn and Waalhalla alongside its two halls at the station.
In de Blaauwe Hand calls itself the oldest café in Nijmegen and traces its hospitality back to 1542.
