Bologna nightlife is shaped by its university, the oldest in continuous operation, and by more than 80,000 students. The evening starts with aperitivo in the Quadrilatero and the bars of Via Zamboni and Piazza Verdi, moves on to jazz on Via Mascarella or the osterie of Via del Pratello, and ends in the clubs north of the station, in Bolognina and San Donato. Entry is cheap, usually €10–15, and most clubs close between 04:00 and 05:00, with Link running to 07:00 on Saturdays. Worth knowing: most clubs are members' associations, so get an ARCI or AICS card before your first night out.

It is a student city, and it is priced like one. More than 80,000 students keep the bars of Via Zamboni and Piazza Verdi busy, and club tickets usually cost €10–15. Link sells its first tier at €6.50, and TANK is often free before midnight.
Most clubs are members' associations, not businesses. TANK wants an ARCI card, Link and Locomotiv an AICS card, Covo either, and Cassero an Arcigay or Arcilesbica card. Some let you sign up on the night, others do not, so sort it out before you go.
The centre is for drinking, the dancing is outside it. Aperitivo, osterie and jazz sit inside the old walls, under the porticoes. The clubs are in Bolognina and San Donato, north of the station, and the night buses that reach them only run on Friday and Saturday nights.
Club entry is usually €10–15, and bars such as Lab16 on Via Zamboni set out a buffet with the aperitivo.
Kindergarten runs to 04:00, TANK to 05:00 and Link to 07:00, with international bookings most weekends.
Cantina Bentivoglio has live jazz every night, Bravo Caffè is a few doors away, and Camera Jazz starts its concerts at 22:00.
Covo has booked independent bands since 1980, Locomotiv runs gigs most weeks, and Estragon takes the bigger tours.
Cassero, the city's LGBTI+ centre, holds house and techno parties in a tower above the Reno canal.
Bring your own food to Osteria del Sole, documented since 1465, or take a glass of wine at Altotasso until 03:00.
Not for you if you want bottle service, dress codes and a big-room club in the centre. The serious nights are members-only, outside the centre and best on a Friday or Saturday, when the night buses run.
Aperitivo. A glass at Osteria del Sole in the Quadrilatero, or a buffet on Via Zamboni.
Dinner. Cantina Bentivoglio opens at 20:00 with jazz, Bravo Caffè at 19:00.
Concert time at Camera Jazz. Piazza Verdi and the Pratello fill up.
Club doors open at Kindergarten, TANK and Millenium. Some nights are free before midnight.
The first night buses leave Stazione Centrale on Friday and Saturday nights.
Most clubs close between 04:00 and 05:00. Link carries on to 07:00, and the last night buses leave the station at 05:30.
Dinner and a set at Cantina Bentivoglio, live seven nights a week since 1987, or at Bravo Caffè a few doors along.
Buy mortadella and cheese in the Quadrilatero and take it to Osteria del Sole, where the rule since 1465 is that they pour and you bring the food.
TANK for consent-first club culture and live sets, Kindergarten for hard techno and bass. Get the ARCI card first.
Two members' clubs with dense calendars of Italian and international bands, a short ride north of the centre.
Saturday sessions run from 23:59 to 07:00, the latest finish in town.
Greenhouses in Giardini Margherita with a bistro bar open until midnight, plus concerts and cinema nights from May to September.
The old market streets beside Piazza Maggiore are where the evening starts, at Osteria del Sole with its bring-your-own-food rule. Around them, Camera Jazz plays in Vicolo Alemagna, Millenium runs club nights on Via Riva di Reno and Cassero dances above the Reno canal.
Via Zamboni and Piazza Verdi are the liveliest streets of the centre after dark. Lab16 for aperitivo and DJ sets, Marsalino for cabaret, and Kinki at the Two Towers end of Via Zamboni.
Cantina Bentivoglio and Bravo Caffè sit a few doors apart at the start of the street, both with dinner and live music. Book at the weekend.
A long street of osterie and bars on the western side of the old centre. Altotasso, on Piazza San Francesco nearby, keeps pouring until 03:00 or 04:00.
The old working-class district behind Stazione Centrale holds Locomotiv's gigs and TANK's members-only nights, and the Fiera side adds Kindergarten and the Estragon concert hall in Parco Nord.
North-east of the centre: Link's all-nighters on Via Fantoni and Covo's indie gigs on Viale Zagabria. The N3 night bus runs through the district on Friday and Saturday nights.
The city's largest park, south of the centre. Le Serre's greenhouse bistro is open until midnight, with concerts and cinema in summer.
Bring photo ID: clubs are 18+, and some nights, such as Eclettica at Millenium, are 20+. Most clubs are members' associations. TANK only admits ARCI members and does not sign people up at the door, so get the card in the ARCI app beforehand. Link and Locomotiv want an AICS card, Covo an ARCI or AICS card, and Cassero an Arcigay or Arcilesbica card, which you can take out on the night. The door rules are about behaviour: Kindergarten states zero tolerance for harassment, violence or discrimination, and some TANK nights ban photos and video.
Expect €10–15. Link's Saturday tickets run from €6.50 to €15, TANK is often free before midnight and €10 after, and Millenium's Eclettica opening cost €12 with a drink. Big concerts at Estragon cost €32–49 including fees. The membership card comes on top, and the bars are free to enter.
TPER runs eight night lines, N1 to N8, on Friday and Saturday nights and before public holidays, every 30 minutes. A ticket costs €2.30 for 75 minutes, the same if you tap a contactless card on the validator, or €2.50 bought on board. On weeknights the 61 and 62 night circulars run through Stazione Centrale. It only pours wine and beer. The delis of the Quadrilatero are around the corner.

Around 38 km of covered walkways in the centre keep you dry between bars when it rains.
