Café on the Vlasmarkt, more than 80 years old, with a rare 1937 Decap dance organ, open Thursday to Sunday.
Café Beveren, at Vlasmarkt 2 in the old town, has been a café for more than 80 years, and its centrepiece is a rare Decap dance organ built in 1937. In a city of DJs and sound systems, it is one of the few places where the music comes from an organ built in the 1930s, and that is the reason to go.
It opens from Thursday to Sunday and is closed from Monday to Wednesday; Time Out puts a visit at around €10–20 a head. Exact hours are not published, so check before you go. It sits between the Grote Markt and the river, an easy detour on the way to the Schipperskwartier. Not for you if you want cocktails or a club sound: this is an old-style Antwerp café, with an organ.
Walk-in café; open Thursday to Sunday only.
