Eindhoven nightlife by neighbourhood: Stratumseind's 40 cafés, the Markt and Kleine Berg, Wilhelminaplein, the Effenaar on Dommelstraat and Strijp-S events.
Eindhoven nightlife is easy to map. One street, Stratumseind, holds about 40 cafés and stays open until 04:00 from Thursday to Saturday. Around it, the Markt and the Kleine Berg have the cocktail and beer bars, Wilhelminaplein has the live music café, and Dommelstraat, opposite the station, has the Effenaar's two halls. The big dance events are out at Strijp-S, in the former Philips halls of the Klokgebouw. This guide covers each area: what it is like, where to go, how to get there and home, and who it suits. Most of it is walkable from Eindhoven Centraal, and the rest is a ten-minute bike ride.
Stratumseind is where most nights in Eindhoven end up. The tourist board calls it the longest pub street in the Netherlands, though it is only 225 metres long: what it has is density, about 40 cafés side by side, and most of them are free to walk into. From Thursday to Saturday the street stays open until 04:00. In 2025 the city tried staggered closing, letting bars stay open later but stopping new guests after a set time. Incidents peaked around 04:00 instead of falling, and in March 2026 the city went back to a fixed 04:00 close, now on Thursday too.
The street is a mix of party cafés and a few places with a clear identity. Thomas is the pink all-day café with surreal murals that turns into a dance floor. The Fat One has DJs and jam sessions, free entry and a 25+ door on Friday and Saturday. Café Costa is the classic party café, where the dancing happens on and around the bar. Altstadt books bands several times a week, Santiago de Cuba is the salsa café, RGB Disco is a silent disco with three channels, and Club Eighty One runs house and urban nights at the weekend.
Getting there is simple: Stratumseind is about 10 minutes on foot from Eindhoven Centraal. Getting home means the bike, a taxi or, at the weekend, the hourly night train from the station. The street suits groups, students and anyone who wants to move between bars without paying at the door. Thursday was the traditional student night, and the average visitor is between 18 and 23, though students told the TU/e paper Cursor in 2026 that they drink more than they club. Not for you if you want one big club with a booked headliner: that happens elsewhere.
The streets around the Markt are where Eindhoven drinks before it dances. The Markt itself has wide terraces and grand cafés, and De Vooruitgang, a city café on the square that was rebuilt after a fire, stays open until 03:00 on Friday and Saturday and has room to dance. On the Kerkstraat, in the same part of the centre, are two of the city's best bars for people who care what is in the glass: The Black Cat for craft cocktails made with smoke, foams and fat-washing, and Drinkers Pub for more than 1,000 beers, 30 of them on tap, plus house beers brewed with Oldskool Brewery.
On the Kleine Berg, Bommel has been a meeting place for more than 40 years, with a €27.50 daily menu and drinks until 02:00. For a night out that is not Stratumseind, LAB-1 on the Keizersgracht is a retro cinema with five rooms, and at the weekend some of them become a club: SFERE on 16 October 2026 costs €10 and runs from 23:00 to 04:00, with UK garage, breaks and techno. Dynamo, the youth culture centre on the Catharinaplein founded in 1982, runs HAVEN in its basement, a club for new underground sounds with nights such as House Mussen for €6.50. HAVEN usually closes at 04:00 but can run until 06:00 up to ten times a year.
The area suits people who want to start slowly, eat well and choose their drinks with care. It is all walkable from the station. Not for you if you want a dance floor all evening: most places here are bars first.
Wilhelminaplein is one of the historic squares of Eindhoven, lined with pubs and terraces, with events on the square itself through the year and live music at the weekend. It is less loud than Stratumseind and more local.
Café Wilhelmina has been on the square since 1971 and is its anchor. Bands play regularly, there are plenty of specialty beers, Thursday is pub quiz night from 19:00 to 23:00, and on Friday the Kroeg Klub DJ night starts at 22:00. It opens at noon every day and closes at 01:00 early in the week and at 02:00 from Thursday to Sunday. Combine it with Bommel on the Kleine Berg and a cocktail on the Kerkstraat for a night that never touches Stratumseind.
It suits people who would rather have a band, a quiz or a good beer than a club. On a sunny afternoon the terraces are the reason to come. Not for you if you want to stay out until four: Café Wilhelmina closes at 02:00 at the latest.
Dommelstraat sits right across from Eindhoven Centraal, and for anyone arriving by train it is the easiest place to start. The anchor is the Effenaar, the largest pop venue in the city, with a 1,200-capacity main hall and a Kleine Zaal for 350. The programme runs from metalcore and Dutch pop to themed club nights: in autumn 2026, Faction Mirage for drum and bass, a K-pop Halloween night, a Turkish pop night and a 90s, 00s and 10s party. The Kleine Zaal holds a 24-hour permit for club nights, and the Effenaar also programmes shows at Altstadt on Stratumseind.
On the same street, De Club is a newer dance venue for a 35+ crowd, with a disco floor, a small theatre and live bands playing disco, soul and funk on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. On the Vestdijk, VANE Skybar serves cocktails on the top floors of the Groene Toren, with a rooftop terrace and the bar open until 01:00 at the weekend. It is the best first drink in this part of town.
Getting home could not be easier: the station is across the square, with hourly night trains towards Utrecht and Rotterdam at the weekend. It suits gig-goers, day-trippers and anyone with a train to catch. Not for you if you want a street of party cafés: that is Stratumseind.
Strijp-S is the former Philips factory district, about ten minutes by bike from the centre, with its own station, Eindhoven Strijp-S. Philips built its first factory here in 1916, a glass works for light bulbs, and left the site in 2006. The old halls now hold design studios, homes, Dutch Design Week and the city's biggest dance events.
The Klokgebouw is the centre of it. Its ground-floor halls can be set up for 100 people or for 10,000, and outside promoters book them for the large nights: Snakepit on 7 November, Hidden Garden with Joris Voorn and Bart Skils and the Memorylane hardstyle classics on 19 December, the Liquicity Winterfestival on 27 December and Verknipt on New Year's Eve. DansSalon is on the agenda for 19–20 March 2027. Before an event, Rabauw on the Torenallee pours its own beers until midnight at the weekend, and the Blue Collar Café at the Stayokay hostel has live rock and rockabilly nights.
Strijp-S also hosts the city's big district events: De Nacht van Strijp-S, held on 19–20 September in 2026, and Dutch Design Week from 17 to 25 October. It suits electronic music fans with a ticket and people in town for design week. Not for you on a weekend with nothing on the Klokgebouw agenda: check it before you cycle out.
For a night on Stratumseind or at the Effenaar, stay in the centre near Eindhoven Centraal: the Markt, the Kleine Berg, Wilhelminaplein and Dommelstraat are all on foot from there, and the station puts the weekend night trains on your doorstep. For a Klokgebouw event, stay at Strijp-S: the Stayokay hostel is at Klokgebouw 10, in an old Philips factory. Compare places to sleep on NightFind stays.
Eindhoven is small enough to do in one or two nights, and the plan is simple: an event at the Klokgebouw, the Effenaar or LAB-1, then Stratumseind until 04:00.
