Buenos Aires nightlife by neighbourhood: where to go out

Buenos Aires nightlife by neighbourhood: which area suits your night, from Palermo Soho cocktail bars to Costanera clubs, San Telmo tango and Villa Crespo venues.

9 min read

Buenos Aires nightlife is spread across eight areas, and each does a different job. Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood are for bars and the clubs on Niceto Vega. The railway arches by the Palermo lakes hold Crobar and Avant Garten. The Costanera Norte has the big boliches facing the river. Recoleta and Retiro have hotel roofs and cellar bars, San Telmo adds tango and one large club, and Puerto Madero has a rooftop with a view. The inner-west belt of Villa Crespo, Chacarita and Almagro has the converted venues.

Pick the area by the night you want, then plan the ride home: the Subte stops around 23:00. This guide covers what each area is like, the venues worth knowing and who it suits.

How we picked

Palermo Soho: cocktail bars and the busiest streets

Palermo Soho is the small, dense core of Palermo Viejo around Plaza Serrano, where old low houses became bars, boutiques and restaurants. It is the best place to start. Tres Monos at Guatemala 4899 is No. 21 in The World's 50 Best Bars 2026, and Victor Audio Bar on Soler is No. 31. CoChinChina serves Asian-inspired drinks on Armenia until 02:00, and Victoria Brown hides behind a coffee bar on Costa Rica and stays open to 04:00. Verne Cocktail Club on Avenida Medrano adds a Jules Verne theme near Plaza Italia.

The bars are within walking distance of each other. The Subte's Line D serves Palermo by day, but it stops around 23:00, so you leave by taxi or app. The district has no club of its own that we list, so the night ends with a ride to Niceto Vega or the Costanera. It suits cocktail drinkers and first-time visitors. Not for you if you want a club on the same street.

Palermo Hollywood: Niceto Vega and the late bars

Palermo Hollywood took its name in the mid-1990s, when TV and radio producers moved in, and it is now the stretch of Palermo for late nights. Niceto Club at Niceto Vega 5510 books bands from 19:00 and runs club nights from midnight, including Club 69 on Saturdays. Under Club at number 5699 is a techno-only room with a 21+ door and no photos on the floor. Kika Club on Honduras opens Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 00:30 and is the easiest door of the three.

On Arévalo, Frank's sits behind a phone booth and needs an access code, and Uptown has a New York subway car inside and stays open to 04:00. Both are closed on Sunday and Monday. It suits people who want bars and a club in one area. Not for you if you want a quiet night: the streets fill after midnight.

Palermo Parks: clubs under the railway arches

The arches beside the Palermo lakes and the Avenida del Libertador hold two very different rooms. Crobar is the flagship techno club: three spaces, about 2,300 capacity and a DJ Mag Top 100 ranking of No. 45 in 2024. Doors open at 23:59 on Friday and Saturday, and you buy tickets in the Bombo app. Avant Garten in Arco 10 is a small house and live-music venue for about 250, with free entry on most nights, Friday sessions from 21:00 to 05:00 and a 21+ door.

Neither has a bar street around it, so this is a destination, not a stop. Book a ride home before you go in. It suits electronic music fans. Not for you if you want to walk between venues.

Costanera Norte: boliches on the river

Avenida Costanera Rafael Obligado runs along the Río de la Plata, and the biggest boliches face the water. Caix has been in the Costa Salguero complex since 1991 and opens Friday and Saturday from 00:30. Jet has river views, a techno terrace and a smart dress code, and runs Thursday to Saturday until about 07:00. Tequila is small, 21+ and run by guest list. Mandarine Park at Punta Carrasco is an open-air venue for up to 10,000 people, with Solomun booked for 24 October 2026.

No Subte reaches the waterfront, so take a taxi or an app and plan the ride out. Treat the Costanera as a night of its own: the clubs are far apart, so choose one and stay. It suits big-room dancers and groups. Not for you if you dislike dress codes or want a relaxed door.

Recoleta and Retiro: hotel roofs and cellar bars

This is the smarter side of the night. Florería Atlántico on Arroyo is entered through a flower shop and runs to 04:00 on Friday and Saturday, with grill plates until late. Presidente Bar on Avenida Quintana focuses on vermouth and Argentine spirits and is closed on Sunday and Monday. The Alvear Roof Bar is open Wednesday to Sunday from 19:00 to 23:30 and requires a reservation, so it works as an early drink rather than a late one.

Use this area for a quiet night or the first drink before a club. Not for you if you want to dance. Retiro is on the list of areas where the US government warns about street crime, so use a car between venues.

San Telmo and Monserrat: tango and one big club

San Telmo is the old tango quarter. Bar Sur at Estados Unidos 299 has live tango every night and is open Monday to Saturday, 21:00 to 01:00. Palacio Alsina in Monserrat is a two-floor electronic club for about 2,000 that opens around 01:00 on Friday and Saturday, with guest lists posted on Thursdays. Free entry usually lasts until about 01:30.

Milongas, the social tango dances, also run in San Telmo, Palermo and Villa Crespo, and they are the better choice if you want to dance tango rather than watch it. San Telmo is also on the list of higher-crime areas, so take a car home. It suits visitors who want tango and one big night.

Puerto Madero: rooftop views, little else

The docks are for the view. Crystal Bar on the 32nd floor of the Alvear Icon Hotel looks over the river and the skyline. It is open 18:00 to 01:30, closed on Mondays, and requires a reservation. There are far fewer bars here than in Palermo, so treat it as one stop, not a night.

It suits couples and a special-occasion drink. Not for you if you want a street to wander. Take a taxi or app to the Palermo bars afterwards.

Villa Crespo and Chacarita: the inner-west belt

West of Palermo, the venues are converted spaces rather than bar streets. 878 on Thames is a discreet whisky and cocktail bar open to 02:00 or 03:00, with reservations by phone or WhatsApp. Dune Park on Araoz is a three-floor cultural centre with a basement techno club, around ARS 30,000 for club nights. Deseo in Villa Ortúzar, in a former textile factory, runs weekend nights from 23:00 to 06:00. Neighbouring Almagro has Amerika, the three-floor LGBTQ+ club on Gascón, open Friday to Sunday.

Line B's Federico Lacroze station is in Chacarita, but the Subte is closed at night, and distances between these venues are longer than in Palermo. Book a ride. It suits people who want a local night away from the tourist streets. Not for you if you want everything within one walk.

How to put an evening together

Most nights combine two areas. A typical route: dinner after 21:00, cocktails in Palermo Soho from 22:00, a ride to Niceto Vega or the railway arches around 01:30, and home when the club closes between 06:00 and 07:00. Keep the Costanera for a separate night. Entry is usually ARS 20,000–50,000 (€12–29), and a cocktail costs roughly ARS 10,000–20,000 (€6–12). Carry some cash: the largest note is ARS 20,000, about €12.

Where to stay

Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood put the bars on your doorstep and the clubs a short ride away. A taxi or app ride of 15 to 30 minutes at night costs about ARS 8,000–25,000 (€5–14). Recoleta suits a quieter stay, and San Telmo and Puerto Madero add a longer ride to the Palermo bars. Browse hotels and hostels on NightFind stays and pick the area first.
