Where to go out in Rotterdam, area by area: bars on Witte de Withstraat, clubs by Centraal, raves on the Maashaven and a 24-hour club in M4H.
Rotterdam nightlife does not have one centre. The bars cluster around Witte de Withstraat, the weekly clubs sit within five minutes of Rotterdam Centraal, and the biggest rooms are across the river in a grain silo and a railway hall. A newer club has opened out in the M4H docks. Knowing which area suits which night saves you a long cycle at 03:00. This guide covers where to go out in Rotterdam area by area: the clubs and bars in each, how to get there and home, and who each area suits. Most visitors need two of them, Witte de Withstraat to start and one club area to finish.
Witte de Withstraat is the closest thing Rotterdam has to a bar street: one long run of cafés, galleries and restaurants a few minutes from metro Eendrachtsplein. On a Friday the terraces fill from early evening. The anchor is De Witte Aap, a busy café that Lonely Planet named the best bar in the world in 2009 and that stays open until 04:00 from Monday to Saturday. It is where people start, and because of those hours, often where they end.
The streets around it do the dancing. WORM, on the Boomgaardsstraat, runs experimental club nights from 23:00 through collectives, from breakbeat to gabber. On the Schiedamse Vest, Superdisco fills a basement under a Latin street-food bar with hip-hop, R&B and house until 05:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. On the Westblaak, Ferry is the city's best-known queer club, with drag, karaoke Thursdays and a dance floor until 03:30 at weekends. Rotown, a café and live venue on the Nieuwe Binnenweg next to metro Eendrachtsplein, stays open until 04:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Getting home is on foot or by bike. This area suits a first night in the city, groups who have not agreed on a plan, and anyone who wants to keep their options open. It does not suit you if you came for a big techno room; those are elsewhere.
The centre is where the easiest club night in Rotterdam happens, because the biggest weekly rooms are within five minutes of Rotterdam Centraal. Toffler is the techno club in a former pedestrian tunnel under the Weena, open since 2011, with a hydraulic booth that moves as the crowd grows and a no-phone policy since its January 2026 reopening. Friday and Saturday run from 23:00 to 05:00, and tickets start at €14.50.
A few minutes away, on the Delftsehof, the Schieblock holds two more. Annabel is the biggest pop venue in the city, with concerts early and hip-hop, R&B and throwback club nights until 04:00. Next door, Sahara is a basement for up to 500 people with afrobeats, amapiano, dancehall and hip-hop from 23:00 to 04:00. On the Schiekade, Time is the new space runs small art-space nights and live noise evenings. South along the Coolsingel, Coconuts on the Stadhuisplein turns into a Latin dance floor for free Club Coco nights.
For drinks, Bokaal on the Nieuwemarkt pours eleven beers on tap until 01:00, Celest serves cocktails on the 57th floor of the Zalmhaven tower with free entry, and La Soirée is a hidden cocktail club on the Veerhaven. The centre suits a short stay, anyone catching a train, and nights where half the group wants techno and half does not. It is the least atmospheric area on foot: wide roads and office towers rather than old streets.
North of the station, the old Hofbogen railway viaduct runs through Noord, and its arches hold the best reason to come here. BIRD, named after Charlie Parker, is a pizza kitchen, a jazz and soul stage and a club in one, open until 01:00 from Tuesday to Thursday and until 05:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Its cocktail garden stays open until mid-October.
A few streets away, MONO on the Vijverhofstraat is a café by day that becomes a small dance floor in the evening, open until 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Noord is about fifteen minutes on foot from Rotterdam Centraal. It suits people who want a local crowd, live music and a night that does not need a big club at the end. It does not suit a big techno night; for that you head back into the centre.
The Merwe-Vierhavens, M4H for short, is a former dock district west of the centre. Its club is Export, which opened on 28 November 2025 in the basement of the Keilepand after four years of permits. It holds about 400 people and has a 24-hour licence, so a night that starts at 22:00 can run past sunrise. The programme covers underground house and techno, electro, UK garage, disco and jungle, and the founders have said they want a door that is not Amsterdam-strict, with some nights run no-photo.
Getting there is the catch. The nearest metro is Marconiplein, and from there it is a walk into the docks; most people cycle, which takes about fifteen minutes from the centre. The same goes for getting home. M4H suits people who want the newest room in the city and do not mind the trip. It does not suit anyone relying on the last metro.
South of the river is where the biggest events happen. Maassilo was built as a grain silo in 1906 and stored grain until 2003. Its largest hall now takes around 2,300 people for Rotterdam Rave, gabber revivals and Latin and Caribbean nights. On the tenth floor, Now&Wow runs as its own three-room club, about 40 metres above the harbour. Metro Maashaven is a short walk away.
Further east, next to Rotterdam Zuid station, Shunter opened in 2026 in a former Dutch Railways maintenance hall. It programmes weekends rather than single nights, like the September W003 edition that ran from Friday evening to Sunday night for €25, with techno, house, live sets and art. The outdoor garden sits between railway tracks.
Zuid suits anyone planning a trip around one big night and buying tickets in advance. The Maassilo raves sell out, with resale through TicketSwap. It does not suit spontaneous plans: there is no weekly club night here, so check the calendar before you cross the river.
Katendrecht was the city's sailors' quarter and red-light district for most of the twentieth century, and before the war it held the largest Chinese community in Europe. It is now a restaurant neighbourhood, reached from the Wilhelminapier over the Rijnhaven bridge, which locals still call the Hoerenloper. There are no clubs here, but there are good places to start or end a night.
Bar Break on the Delistraat is a neighbourhood cocktail bar from Rick de Groot and Salvo Calvo, a tribute to the old Breakaway Café, open until 01:00 at weekends. Across the bridge on the Wilhelminapier, Gastrobar Elvy sits on the seventh floor of the nhow hotel, facing the Erasmus Bridge, with DJs on Friday and Saturday until 02:00.
Metro Wilhelminaplein and Rijnhaven serve the area. It suits a date, a drink with a view, or a slower start before a Maassilo event, which is one metro stop on from Rijnhaven. It does not suit anyone who wants to dance.
For a short trip, stay near Rotterdam Centraal: Toffler, Annabel and Sahara are within walking distance, and the NS night train to Amsterdam leaves from there every hour. For bars, the streets around Witte de Withstraat put you on the doorstep of the first and last drink. If your night is at Maassilo or Shunter, a bed on the south bank saves a late crossing. Witte de Withstraat for bars, and the streets around Rotterdam Centraal for weekly clubs. For the big events, cross the river to the Maashaven.
Centrum for Toffler every weekend, the Maashaven and Zuid for the big raves and weekenders, and M4H for Export's long sets.
For bars and dinner, yes. For clubs, no. It is a restaurant neighbourhood now, with cocktail bars that close around 01:00.
By bike. The metro stops around 00:30 and night buses only run at weekends. Taxis are the backup, and the NS night train covers Amsterdam, not the city itself.
