What is confirmed for the Wiener Silvesterpfad on 31 December 2026?

The city tourism page on wien.info lists the Silvesterpfad on 31 December 2026 from 14:00 to 02:00, with food and drink from 11:00 and free admission at eight locations. The route runs from Freyung via Am Hof, Graben and Stephansplatz and Kärntner Straße to Neuer Markt; Rathausplatz and the Prater complete the eight. The organiser’s site heads its page “35. Wiener Silvesterpfad” and names the same eight locations, including the Wintermarkt at Riesenradplatz, but gives no times; vienna.at counted the 2025/26 edition as the 34th. The stage programme for 2026/27 has not been published on the pages checked.

Which Silvesterpfad rules applied in 2025/26?

Vienna.at reported on 29 December 2025 that the event ran from 14:00 to 02:00 with more than 500 security staff, video surveillance, a public address system and security barriers at access routes. After a certain time stage areas could only be entered through special entrances with checks for prohibited items, and the organiser did not set off fireworks. The main stage at Rathausplatz started its show around 22:00 with a countdown to midnight. About 550,000 people came, against nearly 800,000 a year earlier, and the whole area was closed to new guests shortly before midnight. From 19:00 the Universitätsring by Rathausplatz was closed to through traffic including trams, and from 21:00 U1 and U3 no longer stopped at Stephansplatz.

The Silvesterpfad FAQ, whose sections were last updated in 2023 and 2024, bans glass bottles, cans and PET bottles, and bringing in alcohol. Drinks come in deposit cups at €5 for a mug and €2 for a beaker. Dogs must be muzzled and leashed, and for the 2024/25 edition they were banned from 22:00 to 03:00 at Stephansplatz, Graben and Kärntner Straße. Treat these as the likely pattern, not 2026/27 rules.

At midnight there are gold confetti, free bubbles and a “Midnight Waltz”, with a free “Welcome 2027” shot and a €7.50 cocktail happy hour until midnight. The 2026/27 timetable is not published. In 2023 the regular night buses did not run and on-demand Rufbus lines replaced them; that is not confirmed for 2026.
