The best clubs in Vienna, ranked: techno on the Danube Canal, drum and bass in an old U-Bahn tunnel, house on the Ring, with closing times, ages and prices.
The best clubs in Vienna are not where most visitors look for them. They sit in a former U-Bahn tunnel on the Danube Canal, in old railway arches at Spittelau, in an underpass at Praterstern and in a 1950s dance café inside a park on the Ring. The city is compact and the U-Bahn runs all night on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can fit two of these rooms into one night without a taxi. Doors open around 23:00, the floors fill after 01:00 and most of the clubs below close at 06:00. Entry runs from free at many Flucc events to €18 at Volksgarten, and several of the best doors are 21+. This list covers techno, drum and bass, house, student nights and one very big mainstream room, with the closing time, age limit and one honest downside for each.
We ranked these clubs on five things: the sound and the room, the crowd it draws, how fair the door is, how late it stays open and what a night costs. Every venue here was checked against its own website in autumn 2026, and the hours, ages and prices come from the clubs' own pages and the city's official tourism site. Where a club does not publish a price, we say so instead of guessing. We left out seasonal open-air spots that close for winter, so everything below is open when you read this.
The most complete club in the city: two floors on the Danube Canal, a sound system built for the room and bookings that run from international headliners to local residents. Friday and Saturday go from 23:00 to 06:00. Skip it if you are under 21 or cannot leave your phone in your pocket.
Flex has been in a disused U-Bahn tunnel at the Augartenbrücke since 1995, and the sound is still the reason people go. The club programme centres on drum and bass, with indie and electronic concerts earlier in the evening. Skip it if you want a polished room or a cocktail list.
Das Werk has been part of the city's underground since 2006, in the old Stadtbahn arches right beside Grelle Forelle. Local crews run harder techno from 23:00, usually on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Skip it if you want comfort or a dressed-up crowd.
A club inside the park on the Burgring, in a dance café that Oswald Haerdtl rebuilt after the war, with the original 1950s Wintergarten as the quiet room. House, disco and party records from Thursday to Saturday, 23:00 to 06:00. Skip it if you want techno or a cheap night.
Flucc turned an underpass at Praterstern into the Flucc_Wanne club and built a café and stage directly above it. The programme runs from techno to hip hop and noise rock, and many events cost nothing. Skip it if you want the same reliable night every week.
An electronic club on Karlsplatz with gold leaf, a crystal light installation and one of the better sound systems in the centre. Thursday and Friday run to 06:00, Saturday to 05:00, and the doors reopen on Sunday from 06:00 to 11:00. Skip it if you want guitars or a quiet drink.
Open since 1980, U4 was a second living room for Falco and hosted an unannounced Prince after-show. Today it is a student and party club from Tuesday to Saturday, with rock, pop punk, dancehall and hip hop nights for €5 to €15. Skip it if you want the 1980s legend rather than a young crowd.
A café, a bar floor and a basement club stacked on the Lerchenfelder Gürtel by U6 Thaliastraße, with concerts, poetry slams and club nights. Recent club nights cost €6 to €18 and Friday and Saturday run to 04:00. Skip it if you want one genre all night on a big system.
A bar and club on Hamburgerstraße near the U4, with sessions and jazz in the week and parties to 06:00 at the weekend. It feels like a neighbourhood place, which is the point. Skip it if you want a headline DJ on a big sound system.
Billed as Austria's largest club, with three floors and twelve bars by the Giant Ferris Wheel and everything from EDM and techno to R'n'B and 2000s hits. It opens on Friday, Saturday and nights before holidays from 23:00 to 06:00. Skip it if you want an underground room or a cheap round.
Plan the night by line, not by district. Grelle Forelle and Das Werk sit side by side at U4 and U6 Spittelau, and Flex is three stops down the U4 at Schottenring, so a canal night needs no taxi at all. Flucc and Prater DOME both use U1 and U2 Praterstern. Volksgarten and Sass are in the centre, about 15 minutes apart on foot. On Friday and Saturday nights and before public holidays the U-Bahn runs all night every 15 minutes, which means you can leave one club at 03:00 and be in another by 03:20. From Sunday to Thursday the trains stop around midnight and NightLine buses take over every 30 minutes from Schwedenplatz, Oper/Karlsplatz and Schottentor. A single ticket is €3.20.
For one weekend, do the canal on Friday, then on Saturday pick Volksgarten for house in a dance café or Flucc for something stranger at Praterstern. The full Vienna nightlife guide covers prices, door rules and the night transport in detail, and our guide to Vienna nightlife by neighbourhood explains which area suits which kind of night. If a headliner is in town, check tickets for club nights and events before you travel, because the bigger bookings sell in advance. Bring photo ID and some cash for the door.
For electronic music, Grelle Forelle on the Danube Canal: two floors, a strong sound system and techno and house every Friday and Saturday until 06:00. It is 21+ only.
Most of the clubs on this list close at 06:00 on Friday and Saturday. Sass closes at 05:00 on Saturday, then reopens on Sunday from 06:00 to 11:00 for an afterhour.
From free at many Flucc events to around €12–15 at Flex, €5–15 at U4 and €18 at Volksgarten, which takes cash only at the door.
Most are 18+, but Grelle Forelle and Volksgarten admit over-21s only. Some events at Flex are 16+. Bring photo ID either way.
The Danube Canal for techno and drum and bass, the Gürtel arches for live music and cheap nights, and Praterstern for Flucc. The big room by the Giant Ferris Wheel draws more visitors.
