Volksgarten sits inside the park of the same name on the Burgring, between the Hofburg and the parliament. The site goes back to a hall of columns from 1822, and after the war the architect Oswald Haerdtl turned it into a dance café. His 1950s Wintergarten, with original furniture and chandeliers, is still the quiet room off the floor.
The club opens Thursday to Saturday and on most nights before public holidays, 23:00 to 06:00, with house, disco and party records. Entry is €18 at the door and cash only, though the bars take cards. The minimum age is 21 and there is no dress code. Not for you if you want techno or a cheap night.
