Bangkok nightlife by neighbourhood: which area suits your night, from Silom techno and Thonglor cocktails to RCA clubs, Chinatown bars and Sathorn rooftops.
Bangkok nightlife is spread over a very large city, and each area does a different night. Silom has the techno rooms on Decho Road and the gay quarter on Soi 2. Sukhumvit adds Soi 11, a cabaret on Soi 45 and two go-go bar strips. Thonglor is for design bars and cocktails, Sathorn and the riverside for rooftops and hotel jazz, and RCA for large mainstream clubs. Khao San is the cheap backpacker street, and Chinatown hides small bars on Soi Nana.
Choose the area by the night you want, then plan the way home. The BTS and MRT stop around midnight, so after that you rely on Grab, Bolt or a metered taxi. This guide covers what each area is like, where to go, what to watch for and who it suits.
Sukhumvit is the long road that runs east from the centre, and the night happens in its numbered sois. Around BTS Nana, Soi 11 holds Levels Club & Lounge on the sixth floor of the Aloft hotel, open every night from 22:00, and Havana Social, a 1940s-style Cuban bar entered through a phone booth in a back alley. Two stops east at Phrom Phong, Baccarat on Soi 24 plays house, hip-hop and R&B, and Bar Us on Soi 26 was number 6 in Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026. Further on, Sing Sing Theater on Soi 45 is a 1930s Shanghai-style cabaret open Tuesday to Saturday.
Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are the two go-go bar areas here. Soi Cowboy is a lane of about 40 businesses near BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit, where T.G. "Cowboy" Edwards opened a bar in 1977. Sex work is illegal in Thailand but openly tolerated in these areas. Walk through if you are curious, but expect touts. Lady drinks can pad a bill, and bars with no printed price list can charge what they like, so ask for prices before you sit and check the bill line by line. The area suits groups who want a big night and visitors who like to hop between sois. It does not suit anyone who wants a quiet drink.
Thonglor is the polished end of Sukhumvit, around BTS Thong Lo, and the most dressed-up district in this guide. Siwilai Radical Club on Soi Thong Lo turns from a dining area into a disco with a sprung dance floor, with club nights from 21:00 and a 02:00 close. Dry Wave Cocktail Studio on Thong Lo Soi 13 was number 4 in Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026. Octave takes floors 45 to 49 of the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, and Thaipioka in the Salil Hotel on Thonglor Soi 1 has a standing dance area and runs until 02:00.
Ekkamai is one stop east on the BTS, and 12 x 12 in Thara Rom 2 Alley is its small underground bar-club, with a capacity of about 80 and a close at 01:00 or 01:30. Thonglor was not one of the zones given a 04:00 licence in 2023. Some 2026 guides claim it has since been added, but we could not confirm that, so expect 02:00 and ask at the door. The area suits people who want to dress up and drink well. It does not suit a budget night.
Silom is where Bangkok's electronic scene lives. Mustache and Subwerk 3.0 share Decho Road, about five minutes on foot from BTS Chong Nonsi. Mustache holds around 700 and runs a VOID Acoustics system until 03:30 on Friday and Saturday, while Subwerk plays hard techno and psytrance. Nearby, at Trinity Complex on Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road, Elsewhere is a room for about 100 on the ninth floor that opens from around midnight on Friday and Saturday, and DUAL opens at 21:00 on the same nights. Silom is one of the designated zones where licensed venues may stay open until 04:00.
The gay quarter is a short walk from BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Si Lom. DJ Station on Silom Soi 2/1 has three floors and a midnight drag show, open every night from 21:00, and Silom Soi 4 has long been a gay street of smaller bars. For drinks, Vesper on Convent Road was number 56 in Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026, and ÆTHER on the 44th floor of Dusit Central Park has free entry and stays open to 02:00.
Patpong is the red-light area in Bang Rak, near the same two stations. Luang Patpongpanich, an immigrant from Hainan, bought the land in 1946, it became a designated entertainment zone in 2004, and a night market has run there since the early 1990s. The usual trap is a tout offering a free "ping-pong show" that ends in an inflated drinks bill. Do not follow touts, and ask for a price list first. Silom suits techno fans and LGBTQ+ travellers. It does not suit anyone who wants a quiet start before 22:00.
This is where Bangkok does altitude. Sky Bar at lebua sits on the 63rd floor of State Tower and is open daily from 18:00 to 01:00; one 2026 guide puts cocktails at ฿800–1,200 (about €21–31). Vertigo and Moon Bar is an open-air bar on a converted helipad on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree, about 220 metres up, open daily 17:00–01:00 and closed when it rains. By the river, the Bamboo Bar at the Mandarin Oriental has a live band from Monday to Saturday, closes at 01:00 or 02:00 on Friday and Saturday, and takes no reservations.
Dress codes are real here. Men need long trousers and closed shoes at Vertigo and Moon Bar and, after 18:30, at the Bamboo Bar, and Sky Bar turns away shorts and flip-flops. BTS Saphan Taksin is the closest station for Sky Bar; for the others, take a Grab. Go for sunset and leave by 22:00 if you want to keep going elsewhere. The area suits couples, first nights and special occasions. It does not suit a tight budget.
Royal City Avenue, known as RCA, is a strip of large clubs in Huai Khwang, far from the central stations. Route 66 has a hip-hop main room, EDM and K-pop zones and an outdoor area, with covers of ฿200–400 that usually include drinks. Onyx plays EDM, trance and hard dance, with a cover of about ฿400 with a drink and headline nights from ฿700. Both open every night from 21:00 to 04:00, because RCA is one of the designated late-licence zones, along with Ratchadaphisek.
ID checks are strict: bring a passport, and one 2026 guide reports that Route 66 takes cash only. The floors peak between midnight and 02:00. Public transport is thin, so arrive and leave by Grab, and ask the driver to stop at the alley entrance to avoid a toll. The area suits big groups and a late finish. It does not suit anyone who wants underground music or a short ride home.
Khao San Road is the backpacker street. Big beers cost about ฿80–120 and buckets ฿150–300, a 10-baht bottle of water from a 7-Eleven is the sensible second drink, and last orders are often at 01:00 or 02:00. Smartraveller, the Australian government's travel advice service, notes assaults, robberies and sexual assaults reported in Khao San, Sukhumvit and other night areas, so keep your phone out of reach and never leave a drink unattended. Tuk-tuk drivers offering cheap "tours" usually take commission from shops.
North of Khao San, Culture Cafe on Samsen Road plays house music with no cover charge, open daily 20:00–03:00, and works like a cocktail bar with a dance floor. A 2026 techno guide found it quiet on a Monday, so go at the weekend. There is no BTS or MRT nearby, so use Grab or a taxi. The area suits budget travellers. It does not suit anyone looking for a serious club.
Soi Nana in Chinatown, not to be confused with Nana on Sukhumvit, is a street of small bars in old shophouses. G.O.D on Soi Rammaitree, next to Soi Nana, was number 31 in Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026; it opens at 19:00, serves spirit-forward cocktails with a side bite and fills quickly. Teens of Thailand at 76 Soi Nana seats about 15 and makes gin and tonics from Thai flavours. Tep Bar at number 69 serves Thai spirits and tapas and closes at midnight.
For dancing, Bar Temp. on Maitri Chit Road is an underground house club open Wednesday to Sunday from 19:00 to 01:00. MRT Wat Mangkon is the nearest station, and after midnight a Grab is easier than hunting for a taxi. The area suits small-bar crawls and people who like a room to themselves. It does not suit large groups or a late finish.
For the clubs, stay in Silom near BTS Sala Daeng or Chong Nonsi, within a short walk of Decho Road and the gay quarter. For bars and a polished night, pick Sukhumvit between Nana and Thong Lo, where the BTS runs to your door. For rooftops, the riverside and Sathorn put you next to Sky Bar, Vertigo and the Bamboo Bar. Staying on the BTS line matters because the trains stop around midnight and traffic can be slow after dark. Compare hotels and hostels on our page of places to stay in Bangkok.

Yes. Soi 11 has Levels Club & Lounge and Havana Social, Phrom Phong has Baccarat and Bar Us, and Sing Sing Theater is on Soi 45. Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are go-go bar areas where touts and inflated bills are the main risk.
On Silom and Sathorn: Sky Bar at lebua, Vertigo and Moon Bar and ÆTHER, plus Octave in Thonglor. Most open at 17:00 or 18:00 for sunset.
The BTS and MRT run roughly 06:00 to midnight. After that, use Grab or Bolt. Metered taxis start at ฿35 and you pay expressway tolls of ฿20–50, and some taxis near nightlife areas refuse the meter late at night and quote flat fares.
The main risks are touts, inflated bills in go-go bars, spiked drinks and tuk-tuk "tours". Drug penalties are severe, vapes are illegal and the Tourist Police number is 1155.
