Colonial-style jazz bar at the Mandarin Oriental with a live band most nights. No reservations and a smart dress code.
The Bamboo Bar is inside the Mandarin Oriental on Oriental Avenue, beside the river. Time Out calls it one of Asia's most legendary jazz bars. It has colonial-style décor with leopard prints and rattan chairs, and cocktails that use Thai ingredients. The hotel lists a live band with a jazz vocalist from Monday to Saturday and a pianist on Sunday.
Hours are 17:00 to 01:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday. After 18:30 the hotel asks for elegant attire: long trousers and closed shoes for men, and no sleeveless shirts at any time. The bar does not take reservations. Guests under 20 may only enter before 19:30. Not for you if you want to turn up in shorts or book a table.
