What Zurich has confirmed for 31 December 2026: the free Silvesterzauber lake festival, Kaufleuten and Club Bellevue nights, ZVV night service and fireworks rules.
New Year’s Eve falls on Thursday 31 December 2026. Zurich’s free Silvesterzauber festival is confirmed: fireworks over the lake basin run from 00:20 to 00:35 and the last public transport connection is listed at 04:00.
Two clubs have listed full nights, but most have not. This post separates what is confirmed from last year’s pattern. See the Zurich nightlife guide for venues.
Facts checked on 1 November 2026. New Year’s Eve line-ups, prices and sold-out status change often and many are announced in November and December, so confirm on the organiser page before you book.
Silvesterzauber is the city’s free public festival around the lake basin. The organiser’s 2026 programme gives these times: food and drink stands from 14:00 to 03:00, a children’s zone at the Kongresshaus from 14:00 to 17:30, festival areas with music from 20:00 to 02:30, church bells from 23:40 to 23:58, a countdown at 23:59, lights out at 00:19 and the fireworks from 00:20 to 00:35. The official end is 03:00 and the last public transport connection is listed at 04:00.
Only one area has named acts: the 90’s Bash at Schanzengraben lists Woodwell & Stevenz, GooseRider, G.A.S. and Flashback. Studio 2027, the Bar am Wasser stage and House Markt have no published line-up.
The Magic Lake Zone is a ticketed area inside the festival. Adults pay CHF 125 for entry from 21:00, ages 7 to 15 pay CHF 69 and children up to 6 enter free. “After Firework” entry costs CHF 59 from 00:30, with a party until 05:00. The VIP Platform costs CHF 185, runs from 23:00 to 01:00 and is for guests aged 18 and over. Payment inside is cashless, by card or TWINT.
Kaufleuten’s own page gives doors at 22:00 and an end at 05:00 for the Klubsaal night, with music described as hits and party tunes from recent decades. No DJ is named. Entry is 18+, leaving and re-entering is not allowed, and early-bird tickets must be redeemed by 00:30 because entry is not guaranteed after that.
The Club Bellevue ticket page describes about twelve and a half hours of house and says the line-up will follow. Entry is 18+ with an official ID. The tiers shown are Early Bird at CHF 10.60, Normal at CHF 21.60 and Final Call at CHF 41.90, all including the service fee. The Final Call text says the other categories are sold out, yet all three tiers still show an add-to-cart button, so check the shop for what is actually on sale.
MÄX (Hardstrasse 219) lists New Year’s RE:BACK, presented with Technoabteil, on 31 December 2026 with a Ticketcorner link but no price. The ubwg.ch calendar shows a start from 22:00 and a long DJ list.
Last year’s pattern, from the ubwg.ch roundup for 2025/26: Hive ran “Silvester im Hive” from 22:00 on 31 December 2025 to 04:00 on 2 January 2026. Presale was CHF 40, sold only at the cloakroom on Friday and Saturday club nights, with entry at 21+ for women and 23+ for men. Supermarket held a 24-hour “Grocery” afterhour on 1 January. Neither had listed a 31 December 2026 night on 1 November, and these are 2025/26 details, not 2026/27 prices.
ZVV’s page for the 2026 Silvesterzauber says S-Bahns, trams and buses run until 04:00 in the New Year’s Eve night, mostly every 30 minutes, and that many city tram and bus lines run at least every 15 minutes. The full 2026/27 special timetable is not published; ZVV released last year’s on 29 December 2025.
The 2025/26 plan shows what to expect. Night S-Bahns from Zurich HB ran every 30 minutes instead of hourly, the SN1 gave a connection to Winterthur every 15 minutes until 02:30, and many city trams and buses ran every 10 minutes from 20:30 to 02:00 and every 15 minutes from 02:00 to 04:00. From 21:00 parts of the inner city were closed to traffic, so VBZ routes partly detoured.
Trains and trams are very full right after the fireworks. ZVV advises buying a day ticket or 24-hour ticket before you travel to avoid machine queues and network overload, and last year’s release advised leaving from Zurich HB, which has more space than Stadelhofen. ZVV scrapped the night surcharge in December 2020 and neither the 2025/26 release nor the 2026 page mentions one, so a normal ticket should cover the night network.
Not on the festival grounds. The Silvesterzauber FAQ bans private fireworks there, with city police and security enforcing it. No 2026/27 notice from the city on restrictions elsewhere has been found, so check the Stadtpolizei before you buy anything.
Switzerland also votes on a national fireworks initiative on 29 November 2026. It would ban the sale and private use of noisy fireworks, while sparklers and fountain-type fireworks stay allowed. The Federal Council and Parliament recommend a No. Neither of the two sources checked gives a start date for any ban.
Buy only from the organiser or the ticket shop linked on the venue’s own page, and carry an official ID because the clubs above are 18+. Yes. The festival grounds around the lake basin are public and need no ticket. Only the Magic Lake Zone is ticketed, from CHF 125 for adults.
The organiser lists the fireworks from 00:20 to 00:35 over the lake basin, with lights out at 00:19.
ZVV says S-Bahns, trams and buses run until 04:00, mostly every 30 minutes. The detailed 2026/27 timetable is not published yet.
The early-bird ticket is CHF 35 and must be redeemed by 00:30. Entry is 18+ and re-entry is not allowed.
The page is unclear. The Final Call text says the other categories are sold out, but all three tiers still show an add-to-cart button, so check the shop.
