The best clubs in Johannesburg sit in a few pockets: four venues share one street in Newtown, Truth is in Midrand, and OKIO and Booth are in Sandton. There is no single closing time. National norms allow night clubs to trade from 18:00 to 06:00 where by-laws do not say otherwise, And Club lists Friday TOYTOY from 21:00 to 06:00, and Melville bars close at about 02:00. This list ranks six clubs by sound, crowd, door, late hours and value, using listings checked in October 2026.

Looking for the whole city? See the Johannesburg nightlife guide for bars, areas, prices and transport. The basics first: the legal minimum for alcohol is 18, the Gautrain stops at about 21:30, and the UK government advises against walking around after dark.
