Arnhem nightlife by neighbourhood: where to go out

Arnhem nightlife by neighbourhood: the Korenmarkt, Jansplein, Willemsplein and Klarendal, with venues, closing times and the way home without a night train.

8 min read

Arnhem nightlife is easy to map. The Korenmarkt is the late square, and most of its rooms are listed open until 04:00 on Friday and Saturday. Around it, the Jansplein and the Korenstraat have the beer cafés and an Irish pub, and the Willemsplein by the station has Luxor Live and Willemeen for gigs and club nights. Klarendal, the fashion quarter, has a brewing bistro for an earlier night. This guide covers each area: what it is like, where to go, how to get home and who it suits. There is no NS night train to Arnhem Centraal, so most of it is a walk, a bike ride or a taxi.

How we picked

Korenmarkt: the late-night square

The Korenmarkt is where Arnhem goes out. A Dutch city guide calls it the going-out heart of Arnhem, and the addresses back that up: LOFT, Aspen Valley, Freaky Piano Bar, Café Pavlov, Shooters, Bar XO, The Cavern Café and Dollars Live all sit on the square, and listings put most of them open until 04:00 on Friday and Saturday. Freaky Piano Bar is listed until 05:00 and The Cavern Café until 06:00.

The rooms are small and each does something different. LOFT is the nearest to a club, with two floors and room for 400 or more. Aspen Valley is a ski-hut themed party room with après-ski nights. Freaky Piano Bar starts with a pianist and hands over to a DJ around the time the room starts to sing, at about 22:00. Pavlov sits in an alley off the square, Shooters takes its look from Mallorca, and Dollars Live is the one place with a stage and local rock bands from Thursday to Saturday. Café 't Huys is a sports bar with karaoke on Wednesday, and Café De Beugel hides in the Duizelsteeg alley behind the square, with craft beer and single malts until 01:00 at the weekend.

Several rooms only open from Thursday, so the square is quiet early in the week: Freaky Piano Bar, Pavlov and Shooters are closed from Sunday to Wednesday. We found no published door prices, and reviews of Aspen Valley, LOFT and Bar XO mention rough or unfriendly security, so go in a small group, bring ID and keep your locker receipts. The 2021 city bylaw text we read lets venues in the central horeca area set their own indoor hours, with door staff required from midnight when a venue stays open past 03:00 and has more than 50 people. Rules change, so check the current text on the municipality's site.

Getting there is simple, and getting home is the problem: the NS night-train network does not serve Arnhem Centraal and we found no night bus, so plan on a walk, a bike or a taxi. The square suits groups and anyone who wants to change room without paying at a door. Not for you if you want one big club with a booked headliner: the biggest room we could confirm holds about 400 people.

Jansplein / Korenstraat: beer cafés and an Irish pub

The Jansplein is the square for a long first drink. It has a neo-Gothic former post office from 1889, nicknamed Monkey Cliff for its terracotta monkeys, and the old post office now holds 't Taphuys, where you pour your own beer or wine from a tap wall and pay per centilitre. A visitor guide counts about 100 beers and 80 wines. It is open seven days a week from 11:00 and until 02:30 on Friday and Saturday.

On the same square, Eetcafé Sint Jan at Jansplein 2 is a café-restaurant with many tap and bottled craft beers and a terrace with heaters. It closes at 01:00 on Friday and Saturday and at 23:00 on other days, so it works as an early stop. On the Korenstraat, Mick O'Connells is the Irish pub, with live sport on several TVs, Guinness and hours listed to 02:00 on weekdays and 03:00 at the weekend.

The area suits people who want to talk, eat and taste something before the Korenmarkt fills up. It is in the city centre, a short walk from the Korenmarkt. Not for you if you want a dance floor: none of the three has one, and on a Saturday night 't Taphuys and Mick O'Connells are both busy and service can be slow.

Willemsplein / Station: gigs, club nights and a rooftop

The Willemsplein is the music side of Arnhem, about two minutes on foot from Arnhem Centraal. Luxor Live is a 1915 art deco cinema turned pop venue, with a main hall for about 700 people (a 2019 figure) and an upper hall for roughly 200. Most nights are concerts, but its Dance label runs club nights in both halls, and dance programming is 18+ unless the event page says otherwise. The cloakroom is free. The main hall and upper hall are wheelchair accessible, the balcony is not, and there is an accessible toilet in the basement by lift.

Across the square, Willemeen is a youth and culture venue with a more underground programme: punk, metal and hardcore gigs, free W1 Café gigs on Wednesday and late DJ nights listed for 23:59. Prices and age rules are set per event, and some workshops are aimed at ages 16 to 27, so read the event page before you go.

Two more stops sit within a few minutes. BLOU Rooftopbar is on Hotel Haarhuis at Stationsplein 1, opposite the station, open Friday and Saturday from 16:00 to 23:00 and Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00, with a VIP deck for groups. JEU de boules bar on the Coehoornstraat has 11 indoor boules lanes at €25 an hour. If you drive, Luxor Live's travel page lists the Parkeergarage Centraal at €1.70 an hour from 18:00 to 06:00, with a €23 daily maximum, and guarded bike parking at the station is free for the first 24 hours with an OV-chipkaart.

The area suits gig-goers, day-trippers with a train to catch and groups who want an activity before the Korenmarkt. Not for you if you want late party cafés: none of these is one, and both BLOU and JEU close by midnight.

Klarendal: the fashion quarter

Klarendal is Arnhem's Modekwartier, the fashion district, with independent shops, studios and small cafés. For a night out it is the early part, not the late part. CASPAR sits on the ground floor of Hotel Modez at Elly Lamakerplantsoen 2: it brews its own beers, serves a weekly changing menu, has a covered terrace and holds a Google score of 4.5 from more than 1,000 reviews. It is closed on Sunday and Monday, closes at 22:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday, at 23:00 on Thursday and around midnight on Friday and Saturday. Book at weekends.

We found no Arnhem Fashion Week or Mission programme for 2026. The fashion events that turned up in search were the State of Fashion biennale, which has a 2026 edition, and a June Fashion Month, so check their dates if you plan a trip around them. Klarendal suits couples, small groups and anyone who wants a slow dinner before moving on. Not for you if you want a club: CASPAR is a place to start or end a night.

Sonsbeek and Spijkerkwartier: early evening

Park Sonsbeek is a daytime destination. Stadsvilla Sonsbeek at Tellegenlaan 3 is a restaurant and grand café with event rooms, open roughly 11:00 to 22:00 (11:00 to 17:00 on Monday and 10:00 to 18:00 on Sunday), and we found no club nights there. A Dutch guide calls the Spijkerkwartier the liveliest neighbourhood in Arnhem, with cafés and shops, but we found no late bar or club to list. Bar Hotel Karel there is a coffee bar with four hotel rooms, not a night venue. We also found no late bar or club on the Rijnkade: the Airborne Museum at the Bridge is at Rijnkade 150, so the riverside is a daytime stop.

Use this part of town for a walk or a coffee, not for the night itself. Not for you if you want music after 22:00: go back to the Korenmarkt or the Willemsplein.

Roermondsplein and Musis Sacrum: event nights

These two are about events rather than weekly nightlife. Free Your Mind's King's Day Arnhem party is listed for the Roermondsplein on 26 and 27 April, and a FLOW King's Day party is listed at Musis Sacrum, the concert hall. The wine and cocktail bar JANS' is near Musis Sacrum on the Velperbuitensingel, but it closes at 21:00 or 22:00, so it is an early-evening stop. The festival listings we found did not always show the year, so confirm dates with the organisers before you plan a trip.

Where to stay

Stay in the centre, between the station and the Korenmarkt, so you can walk home. With no NS night train to Arnhem Centraal and no night bus that we could find, a short walk is the simplest way back. Hotel Haarhuis at Stationsplein 1, which has the BLOU rooftop bar, is opposite the station, and Hotel Modez in Klarendal is the base for a quieter stay near CASPAR. Compare places to sleep on NightFind stays.

Arnhem works as a one-night trip: dinner on the Jansplein, a gig at Luxor Live or Willemeen, then the Korenmarkt.
