The 10 best clubs in Melbourne, ranked: Sub Club, Revolver Upstairs, Angel Music Bar and more, with closing times, ticket advice, door rules and how to get home.
The best clubs in Melbourne are small, loud rooms built around the sound system, and most of them hide in laneways and basements. Sub Club sits in a former bank vault off Flinders Lane, Solace fits 250 people in Croft Alley and Angel Music Bar runs a Funktion-One system above a record-led front bar. Prahran and South Yarra hold the long-weekend clubs, from Revolver Upstairs to OneSixOne and the queer Saturday night Poof Doof.
This list ranks ten rooms for 2026. Each entry gives the closing time where one is published, the door and one honest reason to skip it. Entry for named nights is roughly A$15–40 (€9–25), but most venues price per event, so check the listing. Licences differ: Solace ends at 03:00, a few rooms run to 05:00 or later, and the Night Network runs on Friday and Saturday only.
We ranked clubs on five things: sound, crowd, door, late licence and value. Sound means a room built for dancing, with a system that is named or documented. Crowd means people who came for the music. Door means you can predict what you need to get in, including ID and ticketing. Late licence means a finish after 03:00. Value compares published prices with what you get; most nights are priced per event, so it counts least. Every club here has 2026 events or listings, and hours and addresses come from official sites, Resident Advisor, Time Out, Beat and Concrete Playground. Where a listing is older, the entry says so. We do not sell tickets ourselves.
A basement in a former ANZ bank vault off Flinders Lane, with a 10,000-watt sound system and bookings that run from bass and techno to electro and acid. RA lists an all-night party here on 16 October 2026, and a 2021 listing gave weekend hours of 22:00 to 07:00. It is a small underground room with the DJ close to the crowd. Skip it if you want daylight, a seat or a conversation.
Known as Revs, this is the best-known late address on Chapel Street in Prahran. A sale listing for the building describes opening after dark on Friday, a break on Saturday morning and a close at 09:00 on Monday, and RA lists Soothsayer's tenth anniversary here in November 2026. Time Out puts deep house and techno at the centre, with a rowdy reputation. Skip it if you want a short, tidy night.
A record-led front bar on Bourke Street with an upstairs black-box room for about 80 people and Funktion-One speakers. A June 2025 Time Out list gives 05:00 closing on Friday and Saturday and 04:00 on Thursday, which makes it one of the latest rooms in the CBD. RA's 2026 guide calls it a listening-bar club with DJs close to the crowd. Skip it if you want a big dance floor.
Opened in January 2025 in Croft Alley, in the space that held the Croft Institute until 2020. It has three levels and a Funktion-One Evolution 2 system on the second-floor dance floor, with a capacity of 250. RA lists nights here on Thursday and Saturday in mid-October 2026. Skip it if you want to keep dancing after 03:00, when the licence ends.
A three-level club on Lonsdale Street with a rooftop bar, listed by Time Out for hard techno and house and a Friday run under the Nerve name. RA lists it among Melbourne's popular clubs, with a promoted international night on 16 October 2026. A 2025 Beat guide gives it as a 24-hour venue, so after-hours parties are possible. Skip it if you want a quiet drink.
A dim red basement under the Selina Central hotel, opposite Flinders Street Station, with a bespoke Pitt and Giblin sound system and room for 175. Time Out lists gigs on seven nights a week, and RA lists a jungle night, Jungle Mania, on 17 October 2026. The format is hi-fi: music you listen to as much as you dance to. Skip it if you want a loud, anonymous warehouse.
The LGBTQ+ Saturday night at Chasers on Chapel Street in South Yarra. A 2025 local guide describes house and techno downstairs, with pop, drag and throwbacks upstairs, and Time Out lists it as running from dusk until dawn. Chasers has more than four decades of history and still hosts special events. Skip it if you want a Friday: the main night is Saturday.
A long-running Prahran club on High Street with a main room, a rooftop and a room called The Disco. The venue advertises Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and a recent Friday listing gave doors from 22:00. On Monday mornings it also runs a Breakfast Club, with guests arriving around 08:00, according to a 2025 local guide. Skip it if you want one clear sound.
A multi-level club on Smith Street in Collingwood with seven-metre ceilings and a balcony over the main floor. RA traces the venue to 2001, when it operated as Club F4, and Time Out lists a weekly rave on Thursday and parties on Friday. Beat lists the main room as wheelchair accessible. Skip it if you want a pub gig: this is a club with a night-by-night programme.
A red-lit live music venue on Johnston Street in Fitzroy, built around a 360-degree stage. Late shows run every Friday and Saturday, and Sunday is Domingo Latino with live Latin bands. The 2026 programme includes Rich Medina on 16 October and a Hercules and Love Affair DJ set on 14 November. Skip it if you want a free-entry pub: most listed nights are ticketed.
Pick one cluster per night. Sub Club, Angel Music Bar, Wax Music Lounge, Brown Alley and Solace are all in the CBD, and Wax sits opposite Flinders Street Station. Prahran and South Yarra are the other cluster: Revolver Upstairs is on Chapel Street, OneSixOne on High Street and Poof Doof at Chasers further along Chapel Street. New Guernica is in Collingwood and The Night Cat in Fitzroy.
Getting home is the hard part. The Night Network runs on Friday and Saturday nights only, with hourly trains on most lines, tram routes 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109 every 30 minutes, and 21 night bus services. Chapel Street's route 78 and High Street's route 6 are not on that list, so book a rideshare from Prahran and South Yarra. Drinking on public transport is banned in Victoria.

Sub Club tops our list for sound and late hours: a basement in a former ANZ bank vault with a 10,000-watt system. Revolver Upstairs is the pick if you want to go out on Friday night and stay until Monday morning.
It depends on the licence. Solace ends at 03:00, Angel Music Bar listed 05:00 on Friday and Saturday, and Sub Club listed 07:00 in a 2021 guide. A sale listing says Revolver Upstairs runs to Monday morning. In Victoria a late night licence is needed to trade after 1 am.
Named nights cost roughly A$15–40 (€9–25). Prices are set per event, and few venues publish a fixed door price, so check Resident Advisor or the venue's listing.
On Friday and Saturday nights the Night Network runs hourly trains on most lines, six tram routes every 30 minutes and 21 night bus services. On other nights trams stop around midnight, so use Uber or DiDi.
The legal drinking age is 18. Take a passport or driver licence, because venues check at the door and sometimes at the bar.
