Volunteer-run music club on the Oosterstraat, founded in 1899, with gigs most nights and Club VERA dance nights for €5.
Vera calls itself the club for the international pop underground, and it has the history to back that up. It began in 1899 as a reformed student society on the Oosterstraat; its name comes from the Latin Veri Et Recti Amici. In 1980 U2 played here to about 180 people, and Joy Division, Simple Minds, Sonic Youth and The White Stripes followed. More than 200 volunteers keep it running.
There are concerts several nights a week, the Kelderbar in the cellar, and dance nights such as Club VERA, Queerclub VERA, Push It and Flikkerdisco. Club VERA on Saturday 10 October 2026 runs from 23:00 to 03:00 for €5. Not for you if you want a polished club: this is a gig room first.
Gig and club tickets sell in advance; popular shows sell out, so check the agenda before you go.
