Trumps is the best-known gay club in Portugal, on Rua da Imprensa Nacional in Príncipe Real. Its opening was set for December 1980 but was pushed back a week after the death of prime minister Francisco Sá Carneiro, so the doors first opened in January 1981. Today the crowd is mostly young and mixed, the music is house and pop with diva remixes, and resident drag queens perform on show nights. It opens on Friday and Saturday from 23:45 until 06:00, with entry around €10 to €15. Not for you if you want a quiet drink: it is a dance club first.
