Former cargo ship moored at Mud Dock, with gigs in a 400-capacity hold and drum and bass, indie and reggaeton club nights.
Thekla is a former cargo ship moored on The Grove at East Mud Dock, in the Floating Harbour. It opened as a floating theatre and art gallery in 1982 and became a club in the early nineties. The stage sits in the 400-capacity hold, and the 170-capacity bar upstairs works as a second room on club nights. Stormzy, Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski have played here.
Gigs fill the early evening, and club nights start at 22:00 and are 18+. Recent tickets ran from £13.50 for General Levy to £21.55 for Charlie Tee's drum and bass night. Access is limited and there is no accessible toilet, though some seated spaces are kept for each show. Not for you if you need step-free access or plenty of room to move.
Club nights are 18+ with photo ID; the drum and bass nights sell out in advance.
