The Jazz Bar is a basement on Chambers Street, in a building from around 1860, with live music every day of the year. The day runs in layers: free tea-time sets in the late afternoon, listening gigs in the early evening, the main show from about 20:30 and late sessions for dancing that run until 03:00 on Fridays. Jazz is the base, but blues, funk, soul and jam sessions fill much of the week.
Tickets are cheap: many afternoon sets are free, main shows cost £8–12 and the late sessions £6–8 or nothing. The room holds about 140 people. Not for you if you need step-free access: the bar is 25 steps down and has no wheelchair access.
Walk in for most sessions and pay at the door by cash or card; book ahead for bigger shows.
