Bar in a Victorian pump house in Advocate's Close, off the Royal Mile, with about 300 whiskies, open until 01:00 on Friday and Saturday.
The Devil's Advocate sits in an old Victorian pump house in Advocate's Close, one of the steep stone passages that run from the Royal Mile down towards Cockburn Street. There is a bar downstairs and a mezzanine for dining, and the shelf holds about 300 whiskies from Scotland and further afield, next to a cocktail list.
It opens from noon every day and closes at midnight from Sunday to Thursday and at 01:00 on Friday and Saturday. The kitchen serves seasonal Scottish food until 21:30, and the terrace is open until 22:00. Groups of seven or more, and anyone who wants a drinks-only booking, should contact the bar directly. Not for you if you want to dance: it is a drinking and dining room.
Walk in, or book for food; groups of seven or more should contact the bar.
