Victorian building off Oxford Road with three floors, three bars and a roof terrace, hosting gigs and indie club nights.
The Deaf Institute is a Victorian Gothic building on Grosvenor Street, just off Oxford Road, and one of the city's best-known small music venues. It spreads over three floors with three bars, a kitchen and a roof terrace: a sweaty upstairs room under disco balls for gigs and dancing, and a cosier basement below.
It is popular with students from the nearby universities, and the programme mixes touring bands with indie club nights. Listed gigs start at 19:00, and club nights run later. Times and prices vary by event, so check the listing first. Not for you if you want techno or a very late finish: this is an indie room first.
Relaxed door; gigs are ticketed in advance.
