Cowgate basement club for bass, techno, drum and bass and dub, with nights from 23:00 to 03:00 and most tickets £5–12.
The Bongo Club, in a library basement at 66 Cowgate, is the home of Edinburgh's bass music. The programme moves through drum and bass, jungle, techno, UK garage and dub: Wall of Bass, Chromatic, EPiKA, Volta and Overground are regular nights, and Messenger Sound, going since 1987 and billed as Scotland's longest-running sound system, brings reggae and dub on Saturdays. Gigs, spoken word and comedy take the earlier hours.
Club nights run from 23:00 to 03:00, mostly on Friday and Saturday with some midweek dates, and most tickets cost £5–12. Not for you if you want chart music or a polished cocktail bar: this is a basement for people who came for the bass.
Easy door for a ticketed night: buy in advance for big bookings and bring photo ID.
