Swanky Monkey Garden is the bar of a hostel in a former dry-cleaning and textile-dye factory in the yard of Ilica 50, and it keeps some of the industrial look. The main draw is the garden, a terrace that looks over the backs of the old-town buildings. It is heated in winter and has a pool in summer. The Zagreb Tourist Board lists it for live music, artsy events and pub quizzes.
It opens at 08:00 every day, closes at 00:00 from Sunday to Thursday and at 02:00 on Friday and Saturday. Locals use it too, which keeps it from feeling like a hostel bar. Not for you if you want a polished cocktail menu: this is a casual courtyard, and the layout changes from season to season.
