Nonprofit club on Oranienstraße since 1978, from punk gigs and techno to Gayhane, roller disco and Sunday ballroom dancing.
SO36 opened on Oranienstraße in 1978 and takes its name from the old Kreuzberg postcode. It was one of the centres of Berlin punk, with bands such as the Dead Kennedys and Die Toten Hosen on its stage, and it is now run by the nonprofit association Sub Opus 36. The programme ranges from punk and metal to hip-hop, techno and drag.
Regular nights include Gayhane, the monthly party for queer people with Turkish and Arabic roots, which began in 1997, plus Electric Ballroom, roller disco and Café Fatal ballroom dancing on Sundays. Sexist, racist or homophobic behaviour gets you banned. Not for you if you want a polished room: it is loud, packed and proud of it.
Easy door with one firm rule: sexist, racist or homophobic behaviour gets you banned.
