Free open-air samba roda in Saúde on Monday evenings, with beer and food from stalls, on a heritage site recognised in 1984.
Pedra do Sal is a historic site in Saúde where the Monday roda de samba fills the street from the early evening. The state heritage institute recognised the site in 1984, and it sits in the area once called Little Africa, where sambistas such as Donga and Pixinguinha played. The roda is free, and drinks come from stalls and nearby bars.
An O Globo report in June 2026 lists the Monday roda as free, and a 2024 Time Out guide gives Mondays from 18:00 to 23:00 with smaller groups from Friday to Sunday. Fodor's says it is cancelled in rain and that crowds build from about 20:00. Not for you if you dislike crowds: expect to stand, and keep your phone away.
No door: it is a public street and the roda is free; the stalls charge for drinks.
