New Briggate bar open since 1997 and probably Britain's first craft beer bar, known for its beer cellar and Bloody Marys.

North Bar opened at 24 New Briggate in 1997 and describes itself as probably the first craft beer bar in Britain and one of the original pioneers of the Leeds bar boom. It is known for a deep beer cellar, its Bloody Marys and a steady supply of Tequila Verdita, and it has grown into a small group with bars in Leeds, Harrogate, Otley and Manchester.

On a typical weekday it is open 12:00–23:00, and on Friday and Saturday it stays open until 02:00. The crowd is mixed and the staff know their beer. It sits close to the Grand Arcade, so it makes an easy first stop before a gig in the Northern Quarter. Not for you if you want to dance: it is a bar for talking.
