Northern Quarter café-bar on Oldham Street since 1991, with bands most nights and free DJ nights at the weekend.
Night & Day Café opened in 1991 in a former chip shop on Oldham Street, opposite Piccadilly Records, and has been one of the city's key small gig rooms ever since. It serves food and drinks, books local and touring bands most nights and hangs work by local artists. In 2021 a noise abatement notice threatened it, and a petition to save it passed 94,000 signatures.
Gig tickets cost around £14–16 in advance. At the weekend the house DJs take over, and Saturday's Loose Joints night is always free to get in. Times vary by event, so check the listings. Not for you if you want a big sound system or a dressed-up night: it is a plain, friendly bar with a stage.
Easy door; DJ nights are free and gigs are ticketed.
