Concert venue and club in a former milk factory by Leidseplein, with club nights from drum and bass to hip-hop.
Melkweg has been a cultural centre since July 1970, in a former sugar refinery on the Lijnbaansgracht that ran as a milk factory from 1920 to 1969. It sits just off Leidseplein and holds two big concert halls, the Max at 1,500 and the Rabozaal at 1,400, plus the 700-capacity Oude Zaal, a cinema, a theatre and an exhibition space.
After the gigs the building turns into a club. Nights run from Cheeky Monday drum and bass to Encore for hip-hop, R&B, Afro and dancehall, with themed parties in between. Lockers cost €4 or €7.50 depending on size. Not for you if you want a small, intimate room.
