Family brewery tavern on the Heumarkt, brewing Mühlen Kölsch since 1858, open daily from 12:00 and until 01:00 on Friday and Saturday.
The Malzmühle has stood at Heumarkt 6 since 1858, when the brewer Hubert Koch set up here, and the Schwartz family has run it since 1912; Melanie Schwartz leads it in the fifth generation. It still brews Mühlen Kölsch on site to an old family recipe. On 17 June 1999, during the G8 summit, US president Bill Clinton came in for a glass.
Inside there are several rooms, from the main Lokal and the Schänke by the bar to a small Stübchen and an upstairs gallery. It opens at 12:00 every day and closes at midnight, or 01:00 on Friday and Saturday. The Heumarkt tram stop is two minutes away. Not for you if you want a quiet corner on a Saturday night.
Mühlen Kölsch, brewed on site since 1858, served with traditional Rhenish dishes such as Himmel un Ääd; in-house Sünner Spirits distillery.

Brewer Hubert Koch founded the business at Heumarkt 6 in 1858; it took the name Brauerei zur Malzmühle in 1912 under the Schwartz family. The brewhouse was largely destroyed in 1945, and brewing resumed in 1948. It merged with Sünner in 2022.
