Malasaña rock bar in a former coal yard, open since 1979 and a landmark of La Movida, with DJs until 03:30 at weekends.

La Vía Láctea opened in 1979 in a former coal yard on Calle de Velarde, and it became one of the bars of La Movida, the scene that remade Madrid's nightlife in the early eighties. Bands and DJs from Madrid and abroad have played here, and in December 2021 the city council fixed a plaque to mark its place in that history.

It opens every evening, from 19:00 on Sunday to Thursday and from 18:00 on Friday and Saturday, and closes at 03:00, or 03:30 at the weekend. The music leans to rock and indie, in keeping with its past. It is a good last stop before a club, or the whole night if you are not dancing. Not for you if you want cocktails or a quiet table.
