Club in a 1920s Belleville dance hall where Piaf and Django Reinhardt played, now running electronic and urban nights until dawn.

La Java opened in the early 1920s at the back of an Art Deco building on Rue du Faubourg du Temple, in the Belleville of accordion dance halls, and Édith Piaf and Django Reinhardt both played here. The dancefloor is low-ceilinged and close, which suits a full room.

Today it programmes urban music and electronic club nights from Thursday to Saturday, from 23:00 until dawn, with concerts earlier in the evening. It is a short walk from the canal and from Belleville's cheap bars. Not for you if you want a polished modern club: this is an old dance hall with the decor to match.
