La Belle Angele opened in the early nineties in Hastie's Close, just off the Cowgate, and was destroyed in the fire that swept the street in December 2002. It was rebuilt and reopened about twelve years later, and now holds around 600 people, mostly standing. Touring bands play most evenings: the October 2026 calendar includes The Amazons and Buffalo Tom.
Late nights belong to themed club nights such as Off Campus, a pop party that ran from 23:00 to 03:00 for £8.80–11 in August 2026, with an 18+ door and ID checks. The venue is below street level, reached by stairs from Hastie's Close. Not for you if you want underground electronic music: the club nights here lean towards pop and nostalgia.
