Basement jazz club since 1952, down 19 stone steps off Kleine Bockenheimer Straße, with a Wednesday jam and weekend concerts.

The Jazzkeller opened in 1952, founded by the trumpeter Carlo Bohländer, and it is still down 19 stone steps off Kleine Bockenheimer Straße, near the Alte Oper. Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Stan Getz and Sonny Rollins all played the room, and in 1986 it started the first international women's jazz festival, Canaille.

The format is simple. Wednesday is the jam session from 21:00, Thursday has New York Jazz Bar sets, and Friday and Saturday bring trios and quartets from 21:30, with music until about 23:45. Some Sundays have the Swingsize Orchestra from 20:00. Tickets sell online. Not for you if you want to dance until dawn: it is a concert first.
