Hidden jazz bar in an alley off the Groentenmarkt, with free concerts Sunday to Thursday from September to May since 2005.
Hot Club Gent is tucked into the Schuddevisstraatje, a narrow alley off the Groentenmarkt opposite the old meat hall, with exposed brick, a small indoor terrace and seats for around 50. It opened on 6 May 2005, took its name from the Hot Club de France in Paris, and passed 3,400 concerts by its twentieth birthday.
From September to May there are concerts on Sunday to Thursday evenings, often from 21:00, with jam sessions on some nights; during the Gentse Feesten there can be two a day. Entry is free and reservations are not accepted, so come early for a seat. Expect jazz above all, plus flamenco, folk and blues. Not for you if you want to dance, or if you are only in town on a Friday.
Free concerts, no reservations: first come, first seated.
