Uptown cocktail lounge at Lawrence and Broadway with live music every night, Friday and Saturday sets after 01:00 and a building dating from 1935.
The Green Mill Cocktail Lounge is at 4802 N Broadway in Uptown, a block west of the Red Line at Lawrence. Wikipedia says the site goes back to 1898 in city records, though 1907 is often cited, and that the current building dates from 1935. A curved booth is known as Al Capone's booth. Dave Jemilo bought the club in 1986, and Wikipedia says longtime employees Jason Cole and Jill Skintges were set to take over formally on 19 June 2026.
The club's calendar lists live music every day. Monday to Wednesday and Sunday sets run 20:00 to 00:00, Thursday has a swing orchestra at 20:00, the Friday jam session with Marquis Hill runs 01:00 to 03:30 and the Saturday late set runs 01:00 to 04:00. The Uptown Poetry Slam has run at the Mill since 1986, on the third Sunday of each month. Time Out lists hours of 16:00 to 01:00 Monday to Thursday, 16:00 to 04:00 on Friday, 13:00 to 05:00 on Saturday and 14:00 to 01:00 on Sunday. No cover charge, age policy or payment rule is published; the site announced a $5 cover from 01:00 on Friday and Saturday for its 40th-anniversary celebration. Not for you if you want a dance floor.
No door policy is published. Time Out advises arriving early because the room is usually busy.
