Death & Co opened on East 6th Street on New Year's Eve 2006 and became one of the bars that shaped the modern cocktail revival; the name now covers bars in Los Angeles, Denver, Washington DC and Seattle as well. The East Village original is intimate and seated only: there is no standing room, so when it is full you wait.
It opens at 18:00 every day and closes at 01:00 from Sunday to Wednesday and at 02:00 from Thursday to Saturday. There are a few reservations, but most guests walk in, in groups of up to eight, for a maximum of two hours. The menu sorts drinks by style, with oysters, fried chicken and cheese to eat. Not for you if you want to stand at the bar and mingle.
