Das Werk has been part of Vienna's underground since 2006. It sits in the arches of the former Stadtbahn railway on Spittelauer Lände, right beside Grelle Forelle, and keeps the raw, industrial look of a space that is still a work in progress. Artists keep studios here, and the building also hosts concerts, readings and screenings.
The club nights are the main draw: techno in its harder and darker forms, run by local crews from 23:00, usually on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Check the programme before you go, because hours change with each event. Not for you if you want comfort, a cocktail list or a dress-up crowd.
