Self-managed cultural centre in Connewitz since 1991, with punk, hardcore, hip hop and electronic nights, a skate bowl and a café.
Conne Island has been a self-managed centre in Connewitz since 1991, on the edge of the Auenwald floodplain forest. The building started in the late 19th century as an excursion restaurant called Eiskeller and was a youth club in GDR times. A group that occupied the town hall in 1991 won the lease, and an association still runs the site.
The programme covers hardcore, punk, hip hop, electronic music and metal, with a café and a concrete skate bowl outside. The Wave-Gotik-Treffen began here in 1992. Politics are part of the house: it calls itself a centre for left, youth, pop and subcultures. Not for you if you want a neutral party room with no opinions.
Gigs and club nights across hardcore, punk, hip hop, electronic and metal, with a large skate park outside.
Programme-led: concerts and parties have their own times and prices, so check the night's listing.
